Custom built desktop PC: My PC keeps crashing completely randomly.

My custom built desktop pc (parts list here) keeps randomly crashing. What happens is usually:

My monitor loses signal

all my peripherals stop working

The pc seemingly stays on for a few minutes (the rgb doesn't turn off)

The pc finally shuts down.

I've tried multiple things to fix this issue. I've reset my bios by removing the battery from the mobo, and I've reseated my gpu and ram. Somehing to note is that sometimes the pc emits an odd smell, like a burning smell. Can anyone help me fix this to get my pc working again?

(AMD Socket AM3 unrelated, i just picked that because the forum told me to select a device)

Custom built desktop PC: 9/10 times I start the computer there is no boot device

Thank you for looking at this, you are amazing for just checking this out.

So I have been struggling with this for about a year. When I start my computer up one of 4 things tends to happen.

black screen/no video signal detected and the computer will shut off immediately after pressing the power button. Very little sound from the computer.

black screen/no video signal detected and the computer will require the 5-second hold to power off, sound is louder.

bios screen pops up telling me I need to fix my boot device, there are no boot devices.

The computer starts up normally.

This used to take one or two tries but now is a 10-15 minute ordeal of powering it on and off until it works.

What I have done:

checked to make sure the hard drives are connected properly.

Changed the cmos battery

updated the ssd

updated the motherboard

replaced the power supply

used a different monitor

sacrificed a goat to the gods of pc repair

Nothing has fixed this so far. Any help would be so greatly appreciated. I may even name my next child after you if you can help in any way!

Specs:

Asus P8Z77-V PRO

Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz

16gb ram

760w Seasonic x series

Custom built desktop PC: My SSD will not show up on computer

I have a custom built PC that I built myself. I recently bought an extra 500GB of storage because I was running out on my other drive. When I connected it however it does not show up as a usable storage device. When I go deeper into the settings I can see that it is connected but I am not able to use/see it on the windows file explorer. I have tried several methods to fix it including getting a new cable however it still does not work. If anyone could help I would be grateful as I am tired of deleting everything that I don't constantly use just to free up space.

Custom built desktop PC: Can power supply fuse (F12.5A) be replaced wih a 12A fuse?

The F12.5A ceramic fuse for 700 watt ATX power supply is blown, I think it may have been because of an accidental short. I have searched widely and although different sites list the fuse, no one has one and seem to indicate that the fuse is no longer produced. Would a 12A fuse work or is that half amp a deal killer? The load would be MB, 3 HD, 1 optical drive. Video would not be a gaming one.

Custom built desktop PC: Keyboard repeating keys and headphones having humming noise on my new

Recently, I built a new pc and everything has been working fine except for the keyboard randomly spamming keys in random intervals after input and also the headset making a constant hum while plugged in. These problems weren't present on my previous pc.

(going more in-depth about the keyboard is that it works fine most of the time but sometimes it randomly repeats a key after input and will only stop after I input another key. If I don't interrupt it, it repeats indefinitely)

I plugged in my cousin's keyboard and the same issue still affected his keyboard so I know it isn't a problem with the keyboard itself. I've done constant searching, troubleshooting, reinstalling drivers, and even reinstalling Windows to no avail. No articles, videos, or forums on Google or youtube have helped.

We've been thinking maybe that it's a motherboard issue and are considering replacing it as a last resort.

Custom built desktop PC: MSI Motherboard skipping BIOS display?

I bought a new MSI B550 ProVDH WiFi motherboard last week and at first it was refusing to display at all so I got a new CPU, a Ryzen 5 5600x. It began to display but it not longer displays any loading screen when booting up. I like to go into BIOS to check out setting for new parts but it either recognizes the key but doesn't display anyway, or it never boots all the way. I have taken out the CMOS battery a hundred times, I replaced cables, I unplugged everything except the keyboard and mouse, I never have anything else plugged into my RX 570 GPU which has two or three display port, one HDMI and one DVI. I switched to the DVI port from the HDMI and still absolutely nothing. I have an ASUS monitor with a 60/75 refresh rate (don't remember which) that only supports either VGA or HDMI. I have also turned off the fast boot or quick start or whatever it was called in the power settings.

I'm at a loss, the shop I took it too I think misunderstood my issue but luckily didn't charge me since it displays, and I'm sick of driving almost half an hour to have the poor guy make sure everything works.

I just have no idea what to do, any advice that isn't what I've already done would be great.

Custom built desktop PC: How do I mount more HDDs on my old gaming PC?

Hi all,

Not too long ago, I decommissioned a PC I built in 2021. It had an Rtx 3080 TI (currently not in the system as I'm reusing it in a custom cooling loop), an AMD Ryzen 9 5900x cooled by an h150i elite cappelix (might consider replacing it), 32GB of DDR4 3600MHZ vengeance RAM, A 970 evo plus, and an ASUS Crosshair VIII Hero (AM4). This is all in a Corsair 5000x case btw. I plan to Reuse this as a homelabs-style plex server to host games on or a NAS. My main problem is that I want to mount more than 2 HDDs on this thing, would that be possible? If not, what are some other ways I can add some more storage for this thing?

Custom built desktop PC: Need help diagnosing problem with microphone

In the past day my microphone has become nearly inaudible (and possibly of poor quality) to anyone listening over multiple different programs. I’ve tested the headset on another computer and it works fine. I’ve tried reinstalling drivers to no avail. At this point I’m worried there is physical damage to the audio port. I’m always gentle with the PC but I am scratching my head as to what else could be the source of the problem and how it could be fixed.

Audio still comes through the headset as normal. Since I initially posted the question the computer fails to register any audio whereas before it was simply incredibly faint.

Custom built desktop PC: PC making weird buzzing noises

Hey everyone,

I’ve recently started having an issue with my PC where it makes a constant buzzing sound as soon as it starts up, and the noise does not stop as long as the PC is on. This wasn’t happening before — it started about a month ago, and I bought/built the PC back in May, so it’s still pretty new.

I’m not sure if it’s coil whine, a fan issue, PSU noise, or something vibrating. The buzzing is noticeable and definitely wasn’t there during the first few months.

Here are my full specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D (4.7 / 5.2 GHz)

Motherboard: Gigabyte X870 AORUS ELITE WIFI7

GPU: ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 5070 Ti SOLID SFF OC 16GB GDDR7

Case: CORSAIR 3500X ARGB Black

SSD: Samsung 990 EVO Plus NVMe

PSU: MSI MAG A850GL PCIe5

Cooler: Lian Li Hydroshift LCD 360R Black

RAM: Kingston Fury Beast 32GB DDR5 6000

Monitor: ASUS ROG Strix XG259CMS 24.5" 310Hz

I recorded a short video of the sound here:
https://skidded.cf/media/lew31/

Any advice would be appreciated
