Home Audio Receiver: Kenwood VR-507 Receiver Starts Clicking at Random and Audio Cuts Off

Ive had this receiver for like forever. Recently, it started doing this clicking thing. It clearly sounds like some kind of relay and seems to happen at random. Some times it goes for 4 - 5 hours (after turning it on) w/o happening and other times its after only 10 minutes.

Some times it click 6 - 8 times a second for a couple seconds and other times its maybe once a second for 5 mins. The audio cuts out while this is happening.

I first thought it might be a heat issue, so I blew the thing out and stuck a fan blowing on it. This changed nothing.

Interestingly enough though, I realized its the SPDIF In audio that cuts out. When using the analog input on the front, the audio doesnt drop. But the clicking is quite loud anyway.

Anyone have any diagnostic/repair suggestions?

Thanks!

Onkyo TX-NR414: Onkyo TX-NR414 No Audio, HDMI Board? NetworkChip?

Just bought a defective Onkyo NR-414. Fist of all i was surprised by the size an weight of it as I own an older entry-class receiver of Onkyo being almost twice as deep and twice as heavy at this one… well that said I bought it defective. I was told it is not starting up, so i supposed a defective PSU, but that one is working. The problem is that there is no sound. After some googleing I found out it could be the HDMI board, or better the Network or DTS chip. There are several Youtube videos and some fora whit information about it. But no fix because of an exchange Program, but that is exceeded. So how to fix it? Change the DTS chip?

Oh I also noticed that the USB does not have any power. It just missing the 5V.

I Also read that the NR515 and 616 having the same problem.

Home Audio Receiver: Sony STR-ZA810ES receiver stuck in CLEARING loop

The Problem

The unit displays CLEARING, flashing on the screen for a couple minutes... then you hear a relay "click", and it starts all over again... indefinitely (until you disconnect the electrical cord.)

This "CLEARING" loop error seems to happen commonly, and is usually the result of a botched (automatic) firmware update. This issue happens on a few different Sony models.

Seems hopeless...

I have tried every button-pressing-reset hack posted in Sony manuals and in online forums. I have also downloaded the latest firmware from Sony, but consumers cannot update the firmware without access to the unit's GUI (I tried).

The only two "fixes" I have seen recommended online:

Send in the unit to Sony for repairs; and

Replace the mainboard.

Replacing the mainboard is ridiculous (and expensive), so is sending the unit in to Sony (as this is out of warranty.) At that point, it makes sense to buy a new one.

This receiver is currently a very big paperweight. I would like to revive it, not recycle it! There must be a way to force-flash this firmware, even if it means connecting directly to one of the circuit boards...

The Question:

How can a somewhat tech-saavy person actually fix this CLEARING issue on their own?

Home Audio Receiver: Why can't I power on my Yamaha AV Receiver HTR-5940?

Hi, my Yamaha AV Receiver HTR-5940 (EU) stop working the second time.

First time and now the second time the same thing, no power, can't turn the device on.

First time the service told me that the ?transformer? or power supply (I'm no expert in English, sorry), the main thing that powers the whole receiver, was broken and they have replaced it.

I used the receiver 5 times and now it doesn't work again.

Can some one help me fix it by my self please :)

I have tried the following following the users manual:

General TROUBLESHOOTING

This unit fails to turn on or enters the standby mode soon after the power is turned on.

The power cable is not connected or the plug is not completely inserted.

Connect the power cable firmly.

-

The speaker impedance setting is incorrect.

Set the speaker impedance to match your speakers.

-

The protection circuitry has been activated.

Make sure that all speaker wire connections on this unit and on all speakers are secure and that the wire for each connection does not touch anything other than its respective connection.

-

This unit has been exposed to a strong external electric shock (such as lightning or strong static electricity). Set this unit to the standby mode, disconnect the power cable, plug it back in after 30 seconds and then use it normally.

Solid State Logic SSL 2: Passive Speaker Output Fried Interface

Hello everyone!

So today I failed to use my brain - the following happened:

I tried to connect my vintage sony Hi-Fi-System to my SSL 2+ interface. Since it only has the red and black connectors for passive speakers as an output, I figured I'd simply make a makeshift cable and connect it to my interface. In the two inputs of my interface I plugged a double mono-jack to cinch cable. At the end of the cinch cable I wrapped around a wire so I could plug it into the output of the Hi-Fi player. It worked for 10 seconds, then a pop came through the speakers as if I had just unplugged them and the interface stopped working. For the most part at least.

What works:

-Power LED is on

-4k Buttons light up

-Gain LEDs work (on startup, shows gain when pushing the 4k button, blinks when dis-/enabling +48V)

-miscellanious buttons (I think)

-USB connection (is recognized by the PC, able to reset and update firmware)

What doesn't work (anymore sadly):

-input (not via mic, not via line)

-output (not via speakers, not via headphones)

What's weird:

-4k buttons glow very bright red when disabled (should be off), when enabled they glow slightly dimmer red

4k button engaged

4k button disengaged

back of the board

Question:

Since part of the electronics seem to still be working I'm hopeful I could try and repair it. However, I lack the knowledge to identify which part might be faulty. Where do I start looking? How do I do it? Is it even doable (maybe too small of a part to replace by hand?)

A few quick inspections don't seem to reveal any obvious faults like undone soldering spots or popped capacitors.

Pioneer VSX-821-K: VSX-925-K flashing PQLS light, turns off immediately

Hello,

I could not find the Pioneer VSX-925-K receiver in the device list.

The PQLS light flashes when the unit is turned off, and if I press the power button to turn it on, it turns back off by itself after about a second.

I have found the service manual for the VSX-1020-K which according to some info I’ve found is very similar to the 925. It says in the “error indications” section that a flashing PQLS light means “"Abnormality DC voltage of the Digital power supply" detection”.

In the “diagnosis flowchart” section, I have done the “Step 2: Power supply” flowchart steps. All voltages the flowchart had me check were OK.

Where do I go from there? Are there more checks I can do to diagnose the specific problem, and possibly repair it? I have a multimeter, a soldering iron and some experience soldering, so I should be able to repair the problem if I knew what it was. I also have an oscilloscope (compact 1-channel one) but no experience actually using it, so if I need to use that to go further I’d need a bit more hand-holding.

Thanks in advance,

Home Audio Receiver: Since I am not an expert: this is fried, right?

Hi all, hope you can have a quick look:

We used the receiver 531 now for a couple years and last weekend it stopped working. I tried the routine you indicated above but after 5 seconds the hdmi lamp started flashing again. I opened it up and saw this strange looking board behind the power button.

Since I am not an expert: this is fried, right?

Thanks in advance!

Home Audio Receiver: Denon receiver HDCP error? Denon AVR-X2700H

So.... I'll do my best to explain this.

Like roughly 2 years ago, I had gotten a new home theater system, And When watching movies it goes black with no sound then in like 15 seconds it comes back. I think it's the Roku not communicating with the receiver with HDCP, This theoretically shouldn't be happening. All the cables are compatible with HDCP

Example:

I'm using:

TV: Sony XBR-558H
Receiver: Denon AVR-X2700H
Roku: Roku Ultra
