MacBook Air 13" Late 2020: I just replace the battery from my M1 MacBook Air, but nothing.

Hello you all, Let me just go straight to the point here. This is for a battery replacement for a MacBook Air M1. I’m really at a loss here with this thing. I’m stuck and I’m hoping somebody is kind enough to help me out here.

The following is pretty much, but I did.

I replaced the old battery for a brand new battery.

Replaced the double sided tape on everything that had tape on originally.

Connected everything back up.

And closed it back up.

When I turned it back on, it wasn’t registering the battery or whatever else(X on battery icon).

I tried restarting the computer 2x.

Nothing, no changes.

Shut it off and turned it back on. $@$*.

At this point I just opened this thing back up to see what the problem could be.

Checked everything meticulously once again. Nothing looked odd.

I checked to see if the battery was properly connected, it was.

I still unplugged it and plugged it back on real quick. Closed it back up. Done, so I thought.

I turned this thing back on. Same freaking thing! So I restarted again, nothing.

I was trying to figure out what the hell could be the problem here and the only thing that comes to mind is that this probably has something to do with the software itself and it can probably be fixed via terminal, but wth do I know? I am hoping somebody has a better idea than I do, honestly.

At this point, I am between trying to get a refund and scrapping this pos or asking for some help here. So I am here.

What I almost forgot to mention is that after a little while of thinking about this, I just unplugged it from the charger to see what would happen. I actually thought that it’d die right away, but It didn’t do that. It stayed on, I even went online and used it for a little bit(like 20 minutes) until I snapped out of it and I was like -“I should probably plug this thing back up just in case and I should also ask about this situation here”-. Now, I am just waiting to see what happens.

I’d consider any suggestions if you so wish to help me out here.

Thank you kindly,

Guillermo.

MacBook Air 13": Removing any type of residue' from inside the LCD

I am taking apart some old displays that were either faulty or have some sort of moisture behind the LCD. So once I get off the bezel and removed all the screws around the lower panels, disconnect the BL flex and LCD connector etc, I noticed that the LCD comes apart, the 1st outer dark brown 'glass can be lifted from the top and the other half of the LCD is still stuck into the casing, I noticed there is this moisture or oily type substance present, Nothing has broken or been damaged in this process unless the LCD is not exactly meant to 'come apart' like this, I have noticed this is a common behavior for 'old LCD's' when removing them from the shell. I also think that this must be the cause of the 'vinegar effect', so, can this simply be wiped clean both sides, reassembled and the vinegar problem is solved? @danj I think you may have some insight into this.
iMac Intel 21.5" EMC 2428: iMac 2011 only #4 diagnostic LED is lit problem after upgrade

Hi everyone, I am kind of new here so here is my little story which I am having at the moment.
I have been diagnosing my iMac 21 mid 2011 for about a month, and I cannot get it to start back up no matter anything that I've tried and diagnosed, I only get #4 diagnostic LED to lit which is for LCD panel/inverter, nothing else.

First I thought it was the PSU on it's way to failure from age, but purchasing a new replacement didn't made any difference.

Then I've thought the internal connector which goes from power supply to the mb (motherboard) which gives it power and it may have been damaged while I disconnected it from the PSU, and I may have to get it, nothing changed.
But, one interesting thing is that both PSU's giving high pitched noise and "clicks" one or 2 per 3 seconds or so. I can record it as a voice memo if needed.
After that I thought the iMac's chassis may shorting components inside, so I measured voltages with the beeper on multi, everything is fine on that side. (no beeps)

As motherboards rarely fail, I also purchased a replacement, which also did no difference.

I think I have verified everything that could come to my mind, and I simply cannot get it power on no matter what I have tried. I am mostly specialist in laptops, so this is my first attempt and experience on getting inside an iMac.
I really hate throwing electronics away, I always try to diagnose them in every possible way. I have no one to ask and who could assist me in helping with this, as everyone who I know are always with their stuff.

If any more info is needed or I may have something missed during diagnostics, please please let me know, I will very much appreciate it.

MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2015: kernel_task takes up 500% of my CPU when plugging in external monitor

Since I plugged in an external monitor (via thunderbolt) my kernel_task ramps up to 500% and can’t do much on my MBP.

I researched a lot online and did the following:

Disabled Energy Saver - Automatic Graphics Switching on both Battery and Power Adapter mode

Disabled Spotlight indexing for specific types of content and also added folders like “/System” in the Privacy settings

Reset the System Management Controller (SMC)

Performed the Apple Diagnostics test (ADT - some older websites called it the Apple Hardware Test - AHT) and had no issues come from that.

I also use Google Drive’s “Backup and Sync” and do lots of web development with `node_modules` folders, that can have 10s of thousands of small files which I think results in CPU churn. I’ve disabled it now.

Shut down the computer and turned it back on. Still get same issues with the external monitor.

Now with no external monitor plugged in, every once and a while the kernel_task rises up to 300% and sometimes rarely to 500%. I’m curious if it is a software thing or a hardware thing. To me it seems more like a software thing.

I use VS Code for programming which can have a lot of background tasks, same with using node/npm which can probably be doing lots in the background. I also run iStat v6.30, and sadly I have only 21 GB of free space on my HDD (out of 500 GB…). Often I also have Slack open, and I know that’s a web app using Electron to run as a desktop application, which can be notorious for performance.

Often the fans can run high as well. I often suspect it is either due to the VS Code/npm/node/Slack thing, or kernel_task, or maybe something else I’m unaware about.

When checking memory usage via iStat, I can see that kernel_task is using 1.61 GB (oof, Firefox is using 6.36 GB).

Things I haven’t tried yet:

Cleaning out more free space from HDD

Using plain HDMI cable into the HDMI cable port

Taking MBP apart and cleaning any potential dust

Has anyone had similar experience with this issue and how to address it?

OS: 10.13.6

Processor: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7

Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics: AMD Radeon R9 M370X 2048 MB, Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015: 2014 and 2015 battery interchangable?

Hey guys,

Recently bought an early 2015 MacBook Pro 13" which had light water damage.

Opened it up and gave it a quick clean (rice everywhere...)

Only problem I can see is the MacBook can see the battery but wont charge and says it needs replacing (only 17 cycles)

The MacBook only works when connected to the charger.

Now I have a 2014 MacBook Pro 13" which functions normally.

Can I plug that battery into the 2015 model to test that it definitely is a problem with the battery before buying a replacement?

Don't want to waste money buying a replacement battery if that wont fix the issue.

Cheers!

MacBook Air 13" Retina Display 2020: Problems after installing new logic board

I don't know if I shouldn't post on a new thread, since I am not the OP for this one. Please let me know.

The new logic board arrived and I have installed it in the mac. Everything ok until this point.

Where I started to have problems ....

As the built-in display is cracked I can't do anything, but I knew that from the start. So, I connected the macbook air to the external display and the problems started to happend here.

I set up the macbook the following way:

- I connected the external power adapter, connected an external keyboard and mouse and connected the external monitor.

1 - I can close the lid plug/un-plug the monitor, do a million of different combinations, but it didn't wotk work. The clamshell mode is never activated.

2 - I tried several shortcuts to extend the monitor and nothing.

3 - I shut down the mac, closed the lid, removed the power and put it back.

The mac started automatically and I have image on the external monitor, but it's extended instead of mirrored, so when I press "D", it won't show the menu.

Opening the lid reveals the LCD black. It's, basically, off. Removing the cable of the external monitor does nothing, the built-in display continues off until I reboot again.

I don't mind this, since it will be a headless computer.

Question: how can I force the external display to be the main one, so I can configure the computer?

The previous owner formatted the ssd , so I get "?"and cannot go any further regarding booting the system.

Kins regards,

Pedro

Mac Laptop: Trying to use FlexBV board-view reader - How to flip the boards image?

@oldturkey03 Hi, I cannot seem to be able to 'Flip the board' to see the other side of the board? I cannot see any option anywhere. Also, when we click on any particular component we see its connection(s) to the next component(s) in the line, but how to determine if the power is going to or coming from?

MacBook Pro 16" 2019: Keyboard is not working and fans max rpm BUT trackpad works

Hi,
I have a macbook pro 16" from 2019 (i7 32GB). overnight almost, the fans became very noisy and did not stop spinning. The next day at login, i noticed keyboard was not functional anymore. I read this is a key indicator that the keyboard is damaged and Mac goes into safe mode protecting itself. The weird thing is that touch bar and track pad both still work correctly with no issue.
I did get a replacement keyboard+backlight and made a repair service change it. The repair service actually diagnosed an issue with the keyboard; thus the replacement. However, after replacing the keyboard, we are still facing the same issue;
The repair guy even took apart the "motherboard" from my macbook and installed it on a similar macbook it had in the shop; The keyboard worked perfectly and the fans did not spin out of control .

There has been no liquid damage on any of the keyboard or touchpad. My laptop is sitting on a metal plate 30 cm above my desk where I don't allow any liquid. what can this be? Please help.

MacBook Pro 14" 2021: macOS 26.4 charge limiter not working, possibly due to replacement bat

]Not sure if this has been reported on or if I just have a weird bug but for the life of me I cannot get the battery charge limiter to work. I thought it would be nice since I rarely use it for more than a few hours at a time and figured it could save me the hassle of replacing the battery again, or at least offset it. Admittedly I do not know if it is due to the battery being aftermarket or if it is just modern macOS doing modern macOS things, so I am just seeing if anyone has similar issues.Edit:

I was previously using this device with a 1TB Samsung 970 EVO NVMe SSD & a Sintech Adaptor. I replaced the SSD with it's original shipped Stock Samsung 512 GB SSD with a clean installed Monterey OS & I had this update pop up. No matter what I try it keeps coming back (PRAM / SMC Reset). I have never seen this 'Update' Before.

I never tried this method yet just wondering if there is another method possible, the system is running nice and smooth apart from this 'issue'. It seems that I will need to do a clean install again to resolve this. @danj Any Idea on how to 'resolve this'?

UPDATE 06/04/26 I booted externally into Catalina & then Monterey (Internally & Externally). I Clean installed Catalina externally & booted. I used OCLP to install Sequoia but STILL we have the firmware update which does not install. I guess we have to wipe the SSD (Original 512 GB SSD from the unit) which is still installed, and clean install either El Capitan or Monterey to see if that clears the issue.
