MacBook Pro 15" Touch Bar 2019: Torn Battery connector, data line does not give battery status

Hi Gang, I'm trying to repair a friends MacBook Pro A1990, he tried to replace the battery and tore the battery connector off. I managed to recreate all the traces and pads, and did continuity testing which all looks OK.

The pad via's have continuity with the via's to the corresponding test points

The problem is the laptop charges, works fine on battery power, but there is an X over battery, and does not give charge or % data. Im assuming a data line for battery status is having an issue somewhere.

Any one have any advice where I can look next? Im all out of ideas ;o/

Attached is the corresponding schematic area of the logic-board

Update (11/15/25)

Update (11/16/25)

Hi OT, sorry for bad photo. The original photo was before any work was done. the pads were in fact bridging, but here is the rework. the only pads not connected are the back legs, which are presumably to ground pad, but schematic reads No Connection.

MacBook Pro 16" 2024 (M4): Water Spill Fans Running Constant Partial FIx

I had a very big spill on my laptop and I have taken the back off and add it out for a couple of days My trackpad wasn't doing the haptic and I found that the ribbon connector had a little bit of corrosion I cleaned all that up and now it's working.

My fans are constantly running and they said it could be the sensors i'm wondering if it's worth to take off the logic board and check the little circuit underneath the logic build connecting to the fans?

The fan ribbon adapter on the top of the logic board was all fine and it really does not seem any water damage around any circuits etcetera considering there was a lot from a bucket falling

So the question would be should I bother taking a logic board off to check if the circuit connect to the fans underneath has a little corrosion Or does anyone think it's just sensors in general any help would be greatly appreciated?

MacBook Pro 14" 2021: Help troubleshooting MacBook Pro 14" 2021 (A2442): won't boot, battery

I have a used MacBook Pro 14" (model A2442, 2021) and it won't turn on. I've done some troubleshooting and would appreciate any advice on next steps.

What I've tried:

Charged for 3 hours via USB-C

Tried external monitor (no output)

SMC reset attempt (hold power 10 seconds)

All key combinations for recovery mode

Diagnostics so far:

When plugged into USB-C power bank, one port draws 3-12W (varying/cycling), the other ports only 0.1-0.3W

No response to any key presses

No startup chime, no display output on internal or external monitor

Power draw pattern happens automatically when plugged in (seems like boot loop?)

Opened it up (followed iFixit guide):

No visible water damage or corrosion

Battery connector logic board side: 1.5V

Battery side: 0.0V (completely dead battery?)

Tried booting with battery disconnected - same behavior

Questions:

Could the dead battery be preventing boot even with external power?

Is this likely a logic board issue?

Why is the battery showing exactly 0V? Isnt that weird?

Worth trying anything else before taking it for professional repair?

The machine looks pristine physically, so I'm hoping it's fixable. Any insights appreciated.

MacBook Pro 15" Touch Bar 2017: MacBook Pro A1707 trackpad shaking

I've got this old Macbook Pro that was with a very swollen battery. Decided to replace the battery, ordered a new one, then found out that the trackpad and keyboard flex cables have broken due to the battery being so swollen.
So I ordered new cables as well. After putting everything together the laptop works, but the cursor is shaking and unresponsive. Unusable.
I've removed the trackpad dozen more times to clean it and check if everything's as it was. No joy. Then accidently cracked the trackpad, so I ordered a NEW one with a new flex cable. Doh, still no joy. The cursor acts identically. Putting external mouse works, but sometimes the cursor still barely jumps in random direction.

At this point I'm all out of ideas, so any advice would be helpful.

MacBook Pro 14" Late 2024 M4: MacBook Pro 14″ (M4, 2024) boots on battery but shuts down on charger

Model & history

MacBook Pro 14″, late 2024 (M4, base model)

Tea spill on keyboard ~4 months ago. Local shop did a cleaning - no parts replaced. Machine has worked perfectly since.

Battery still healthy; macOS Sequoia.

Current symptoms:

If I power up on battery alone, the Mac runs normally (until it dies from low battery).

As it's low battery, when I power up I get a message that displays the "runs on reserve battery life" and the macOS first shows the yellow-triangle “The version of macOS on the selected disk needs to be re-installed” screen. When I click Recovery → Reboot the macOS from Recovery, the Mac runs normally .

The moment I attach any external power—Apple 140 W brick + MagSafe 3, or known-good 96 W brick over USB-C, or USB-C on the opposite side—the MagSafe LED blinks amber for ≈1 s and the whole laptop shuts off. Same behaviour on both USB-C ports.

Reconnecting the charger while the Mac is off causes a brief blink, then nothing. Unplugging the charger lets me boot again on remaining battery.

Tried three different chargers and two MagSafe 3 cables; cleaned all ports with 99 % IPA; let it dry 24 h—no change.

What I’ve ruled out / measured:

Charger and cable (swapped).

MagSafe DC-in board (visual inspection—looks clean, no charred pins).

Battery fuse appears intact (machine boots on battery).

Liquid-detection lock doesn’t match the hard power-off I’m seeing.

Suspicions from research:

Faulty RAA489900/RAA489901 charger IC (U7200) or shorted PPBUS bulk cap.

Less likely but possible: both CD3219/3220 USB-C PD controllers or the ideal-diode MOSFET pair.

Repeated hard shut-offs are probably what corrupted the Signed System Volume and trigger the yellow-triangle screen.

Goal:

Figure out the issue and whether a U7200 re-chip (or cap swap) is worth attempting if that's the cause.

Thanks in advance for any schematics, voltage points, or hard-earned wisdom you can share!
