I purchased this trackpad over a year ago and have used it daily since. The item was never dropped or damaged, but the other day it just stopped working. I click the power button and nothing happens. No green LED, no connection to my MacBook.

I replaced the batteries several times and tried cleaning the contacts for the batteries inside the device. Nothing has worked. Apple support recommended I take the item in to an Apple store so they can "look at it", but before they try to sell me a new one, I'm wondering if anyone has had success in reviving these devices after they die.

Apple Thunderbolt Display: Thunderbolt display power source blew up - worth trying to replace?

I plugged the Thunderbolt cable from the Apple Thunderbolt Display into my MacBook the other day, as I have done one thousand times before. There was a huge cracking sound - like a capacitor burned out or similar and the display went dead. Smoke and ozone smell - although no visible smoke. No response since. The MacBook is fine.

The powerboard the display was plugged into is also dead - no response on any outlet. All other devices plugged into the powerboard are OK.

What do you think the chances are that the display circuitry survived? Is it worth spending the money on a new power supply to test if it works?

Or, at least spending the money on the suction caps to tear the display down and visually inspect? Could you even tell from a visual inspection if the silicon got fried?

Magic Trackpad: battery acid has damaged my devices

I had old-style batteries (the ones with acid) in my track pad and it stopped working. I opened the battery slot and found that one of the batteries leaked acid, some of which became stuck on the wall of the slot. I tried cleaning it out as best as I could, but it doesn't work now that I've replaced the old defective batteries with fresh ones.

And to make things worse, the same has happened with my wireless keyboard and the battery that's in deepest is stuck and I haven't found any kind of tool that can pull it out.

Any suggestions, or do I have to spring for new devices?

AirPort Time Capsule Model A1409: Power Supply Failing? Or is TC Overheating?

Just recently, my Time Capsule has been occasionally shutting off without warning. It's happened several times so far this past month and a half, and I think it is from overload? To elaborate for the last failure, I was simultaneously transferring a large file from the TC's HDD to a MBP, downloading a 1GB update for a program on another MBP, and streaming a YouTube video on a Windows desktop.

It abruptly cut off everything I was doing, and there is no LED on the front while plugged in. However, while plugged in, I can hear and feel the hard drive still spinning. The TC is somewhat warm to the touch (seems to be the usual temp), but it's not scorching hot.

If I give it 5-15 minutes of leaving it unplugged and then plug it back in, it mysteriously starts working again, LEDs and all. When it turns off again, nobody knows, but it sure will be at the most inconvenient time.

My TC is sitting in a TV entertainment center, on the first shelf below the TV but there is plenty of empty ventilating room around it.

So what's going on here? Am I going to need to replace the power supply? Or is it just overheating from too much activity and it wants to cool down for a bit? I don't know what to make of these symptoms...

4th generation Time Capsule (2TB)
Hard drive is not dead
Plugged into power surge protector (or power strip...?)
Using original power cable.
Bought used on eBay a few months ago, likely been in service for more than 12 months

Magic Mouse: How do I reattach the capacitor board to get touch capability?

My magic mouse came apart after dropping it. I put it back together and I am able to point and click with it, but I lost the "magic" touch capability for scrolling, etc. I think it's because the orange tab that is part of the capacitive touch sensors isn't connected to the circuit board in the mouse. Can someone tell me how to re-attach it properly? It would be MUCH appreciated... :)

Apple Wireless Keyboard A1016: Having issues with connecting my A1016 on Monterey.

I have an original Apple Wireless Keyboard and I cannot for the life of me get it to connect to macOS Monterey. It works perfect on Big Sur on there save machine and it also works with Windows 10 and Debian. I have tried SMC and PRAM reset, replacing the batteries, and a clean install of Monterey but nothing seems to work. Thank you.

EDIT: I contacted Apple and they have confirmed that the keyboard was depreciated in Monterey. Don’t know why but it is Apple and they are good at breaking stuff for seemingly no reason. A workaround is to install Big Sur (or earlier) on a separate volume or hard drive (or flash drive) and pair the keyboard and restart. Hopefully it will stay paired but once every few weeks it may not want to re-pair needing you to reboot into Big Sur. If your hardware shipped with Monterey or newer then as far as I know you are out of luck. Truthfully, it probably is time to start looking for another keyboard.

Hi all,

I have a new Macbook but also a 2012 Thunderbolt display. The Macbook only has a USB-C port and I was wondering if anyone has come across people replacing the Thunderbolt display's Mini Display cable with a USB-C one.

Is this even possible?

Any Mini Display-to-USB-C adaptors were very quickly (and suspiciously...) discontinued shortly after they were released in 2015.

Any advice or info would be much appreciated.

I have macbook pro 13" early 2013 and it comes with 60w magsafe 2 power adapter. I was working normally all the time and a week ago it started to act weirdly. The green light is always on, even if its not plugged into mac and it doesn't charge the battery, only holds the power.

At first I though its my pc problem, did SMC reset but still nothing. Tried with my girlfriend pc, its the same. Its not charging at all only holds the power.

Does anyone got the same problem and what should I do with charger?

I've seen @danj mention a new formatting method for SSD drives and know nothing about it. Is it used on hybrid drives, standard 2.5" drives, blades, logic board integrated drives, RAID arrays or a fusion set up? What are the benefits, drawbacks, when to use and not use?

Where do I find this formatting utility, will it (or is it) in Sierra Disk Utility? Will it be in High Sierra?

Is it to be on iOS devices and/or Macs? How is it an improvement over HFS+?

Please, somebody teach us ;-)
