MacBook Unibody Model A1278: RAM upgrade from 1066 to 1333 MHz

Hello there,

I own a MacBook Pro 13' 2011 and my wife has a MacBook 13' Unibody late 2008. I recently upgraded the RAM of my MBP from 4GB to 8GB, but my wife only has 2GB in her MB.

The RAM of the MacBook is : 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM

The one of my MacBook Pro is : 204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM

My question is, can I put my old 2x2GB 1333MHz in her 1066MHz RAM slots without any problem ? Will it work ?

Thank you

MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2014: How to remove anti-glare coating effectively?

This is my progress on removing the anti-glare coating after 2 hours. I tried Listerine, 90% alcohol, Peek Metal Polish, anti-bacterial wipes, bleach, and nail polish remover w/ acetone (before I read that someone else damaged the glass itself because of acetone). Luckily, my glass is still fine. Unfortunately, I haven't made much progress as you can see from the picture. I'm confused to why none of the solutions isn't working for me. Some said that Listerine alone worked well along with a microfiber cloth. I tried that but since it didn't work I moved on to try all the other solutions I mentioned. Is anyone else having this issue dispite of trying all kinds of solutions? And is there any other alternatives that would make it simple to remove w/o much time being spent?

I installed a 1TB SSD HB 2.5" and it worked like a charm. Then I installed the 16 GB RAM upgrade and nothing. No beeps, no chime, just a black screen and the fan might be running, hard to tell.

Back to the original 4 GB RAM and starts up like a charm. High Sierra and all else is up to date. Tried running the EFI updater available for my machine and got message that it's not supported by my system.

Took out one of the 2 GB sticks and put in one of the 8 GB sticks. Started right up and system info says it is running 10 GB RAM. Took that 8 out and put in other 8 and same result. Runs great. So the RAM I bought is not bad and my RAM slots both work, but it won't run with both 8 GB sticks.

Anyone encounter this too and if so is there a way to get all 16 GB of RAM to work?

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Late 2013: Backlight works, but no display!

Okay, here's the rundown.

A1502, purchased in March 2014, has suddenly created a pretty nasty problem.

Went to boot one day and *chime!* but no screen. Apple logo on the back lit up, backlight was obviously working, but ZERO display workings.

Okay, so I plug in an external monitor. Nothing. "HDMI signal not detected." Okay, so I do the Googles, read the reddit, etc etc. Reset NVRAM/PRAM, reset SMC, no luck. Try booting Command+D Diag. mode, and output on external monitor! However, white progress boot bar hangs at 1/2way for 3.6 hours. So I Safe Boot (Power+Shift). Finally, I can use my external monitor! I can get into my mac and mirror displays, so that I can offload my data. Great.

I know the int. screen isn't working-- that's not the discussion.

Here's the question: When I boot normally in clamshell-closed mode, external monitor works perfectly. But the second I open the lid (i.e. use keyboard) EVERYTHING GOES BLACK AND TURNS OFF. Then, I must boot into safe mode to use the mac again! And the cycle repeats itself... What is the culprit here? Iris video card, Logic board, loose internal connector, or all of the above? Is the internal display issue and this issue related at all?

P.S. Congrats for getting this far. I know the writing is dense.

Thank ya much,

MacBook Air 13" Mid 2011: System is very slow after changing battery

My battery life was getting shorter so I ordered a new battery and replaced it with no issues at all. Put everything back together, plugged it back in and the iOS Yosemite took a very long time to boot up. Then after booting up the top menus didn't display for several minutes. The mouse is lagging horribly and programs take forever to load. I have tried rebooting it a few times and no change. I am not sure what could be the cause of this.....any ideas?

Lastly I saw an explanation on how to reset the smc which I did, not sure whether it worked or not but no change in the slowness.

MacBook Air 13" Early 2014: Mac not turning on... (Again!)

An Usual, day before yesterday morning, while I opened my 2.5 year old MBA 13' A1466 (Early-2014) (Opened in the sense, I opened the lid. I usually don't shut it down, ). It wasn't turning on.

In those 2.5 years, I never had a single problem, be it battery life or performance.

My Mac's condition:

98 cycles completed. Battery health 98-100% (istat menus' reading)

It's always kept on charge and at 100 %. (This is how its been from past 2 years, except for once a month , intended battery drain to below 50%)

Neither has the mac ever been dropped nor has water spilled on or in it. It has been handled with utmost care, and also, it hasn't traveled much.

It's up to date (macOS 12.2.2)

So, day before yesterday I kept trying by pressing the power button again and again, tried doing SMC reset, then after a while like an half-hour so, It started. I used it the whole day, no problems at all and before I went to bed I just closed the lid (as usual).

Next day when I opened (Like after, 8 hours or so) It didn't turn on. I tried everything present on this and other forums, apple communities etc.., no matter how ridiculous they were (banging, shaking), it all went in vain.

Problem:

Mac isn't turning on. Appears to be "dead".

Neither does the fan start and nor does it make any noise when I press the power button. (I in fact, used a stethoscope to check, if it makes any teeny-tiny squeaky noise and NO, it doesn't).

Here are the things I tried:

Did SMC reset.

Even discharged it a bit by charging mobile device through Mac's usb port. and did SMC reset again.

Sightly banged its four corners

Shake mac, like I mean it

Finally, in the evening decided to open it up and disconnect the battery. The moment I started to unscrew it, I removed one screw, and just thought of checking once more, before I unscrew all. I pressed power button and BAM! it turned on. I instantly did SMC and PRAM reset, ran the diagnostic tool (no problems were found).

There were slight hiccups though, while doing resets, at time it was not turning on after reset, but may be after 5-10 min or so it turned on.

I then restarted and shut down mac several times, and it went all smooth. There was an OS update to 12.2.2 and I updated.

Same thing I did yesterday night, closed the lid and today morning when I opened it, It isn't turning on.

Do you think there may be any sort of hardware issue?

Please tell me is there anything else I should try. I'm not in a state to goto apple store, as the nearest one is 160 miles away and I have exams to study for and all my notes are in it.

Please Help!!

P.S : Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to make everything clear.

MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Mid 2009: SMC / power / charging circuit problem

My macbook pro has had a hardware fault since I tried a replacement battery in it, one from ebay :(

Needless to say that battery is out of the equation now, but I still have a persistent fault. I initially tried all SMC/RAM resets, but it's a hardware fault for sure.

The machine will now only boot from a mains power source. The mag light stays green always but the battery icon is an x. Coconut Battery can't get _any_ details, charge, temp, etc all unavailable.

It's been this way for a while, such that now the internal battery is flat I expect, I can now only boot it via SMC bypass, leaving fans on full blast and there is now no battery icon at all. I'll get a new battery, if I thought the Logic board could be fixed.

I wondered if something in the SMC circuit area could be fried.

I've removed the whole logic board and carefully cleaned it up. I looked for any signs of damage, a burnt component or track but alas it all looks fine.

Are there some parts of the SMC circuit I can check, maybe some FETs or the SMC chip are dead, I could attempt to test/replace perhaps, if I knew where to look.

Any ideas?

Update

Interestingly just noticed that while coconut can't find any battery stats at all (and maybe the battery is flat=dead now too) - it does say it can't detect a power source. It says Power Adapter: No Adapter Found. A clue maybe?

MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2012: Screen Stains that won't go away

My flatmate used my new MBP 15" Retina today, got finger stains on it and then went to clean it. They say just with tap water, but there are stains all over the screen like a smudgy mist that won't come off - i think they used some kind of washing up liquid or soap.

I've tried a micro fibre cloth, and special bought lcd cleaner, but its not worked, the smudges are all there still.

What is the best way to get rid of them if it is caused by some kind of soap? OR am i looking a paying for a costly replacement?

Please help!

MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Early 2011: Slow charging and sudden battery life loss

After putting off the upgrade for about a year and a half, I finally swapped out the battery in my early 2011 MBP with new stock from iFixit. The initial result was good: 6,058mAh through the first 3 cycles, per Coconut Battery. I did notice that it was taking longer to charge the computer, but I attributed that to the new battery's size - I was working with 3,528mAh (61% of original capacity) on 1,616 cycles before this new battery.

Couple days later, and I noticed two things. One, my battery capacity has already dropped off to 5,252mAh (91% of factory capacity) after 5 cycles. Two, my computer had charged maybe 20% over the course of 4 hours while on power adapter. Coconut Battery reported it was charging with about 3.66 watts. I have noticed this issue from time to time.

Do you guys think it's the new battery? The power adapter and cord? Or perhaps the MagSafe power port? My power adapter and cord is not as aged; I had to buy a replacement about 4 years ago. The MagSafe port is showing its age somewhat; it definitely doesn't look very clean. When I reset the connection, sometimes it'll jump to a higher wattage for charging (like around 12 watts). One last time I noticed recently was that the LED would slowly dim out once in a while - weird!

Answers greatly appreciated!!
