Nexus 4: Did I damage the battery?

Hi!

I used the tear-down guide to change the the lcd/glass/touch/frame assembly. I had the right tools and was very careful. But the battery gave me problems, the glue held up a good fight. I didn't know that there was a small control board in the upper part where the connector sits. So i lifted the battery all the way around, and it got a little bent while doing this. When i put everything back together, it wouldn't start. I plugged it in the charger and the LED blinks red. The battery was fully charged before i took it apart.

I suspect that i broke the battery, trying to get it out. Would you agree?

I tried to take the connector of the battery and reconnecting, no change. When i plug the charger in, while the battery is disconnected, the screen shows the battery logo. I can even turn it on for a few seconds, it vibrates and shows the google logo. then turns back off. I guess because of the missing battery?

Do you think it's safe to order a new battery, and that it will work again?

Nexus 4: USB premium cables stop syncing or is the phone port getting dodgy?

Hi all,

I notice that the after markets USB cable that I bought (they're not generic ebay/chinese ones but Lindy ones) stopped letting me transfer data to the computer to my Nexus 4 phone (but they'restill able to charge the battery). I remember they used to deliver data as well (and as advertised).

I did a test with a brand new Samsung cable which arrived with my girlfriend new Galaxy Note 4 phone.

Now, there's a BUT! It's not the first time this is happening and it's really frustrating (all the times I need to transfer some photos I need to find a working cable) but should I possibly blame the USB port on the phone for this? It's getting loose/wobbly/"dodgy", requiring me to re-push the connector back in to avoid conncection issues.

Now the question is: could be this loosey port be the cause?

I had good brand phones before getting to the same situation (loose usb port) in a relatively short time: how is that possible producers are still sticking to this kind of connection?

Did even Apple drop the mag safe on the recent iPhone? (it's ages I haven't seen one)

Why USB-C didn't address the issue at all?

It's nearly 2016!!!

Thanks for suggestions and sharing your experience

Could someone please help me?

recently my S.O dropped and smashed her Nexus 4 for the second time. i have succesfully replaced 3 nexus 4 screens so far and so i am very familiar with the internals. however, this time as i removed the battery, i noticed that something fell out, upon further inspection i realised that two of the four golden pins in the battery socket (shown in the picture included) had fallen out and are nowhere to be found.

subsequently the phone now will not power on whatsoever.

My question is, can i buy these pins online, if so where. and if not is there anyone who could repair this for me?

All feedback is appreciated. :)

Nexus 4: Is there a market for broken parts?

I've performed open heart surgery on my beloved Nexus 4 today and changed its motherboard, because it randomly crashed when it ran on battery and the level reached a certain threshold. Also, I broke the battery connector when trying the cheap solution and putting a new battery in.

Now that I've successfully repaired my phone instead of just buying a new one, just as the Repair Manifesto tells us to, I wonder what to do with the old motherboard. All the motherboards you can buy for the Nexus 4 are used ones which probably already were refurbished, and my old one still has most of its parts working.

The question I'm asking myself now is: where do these used motherboards come from? Are there people that have a use for partially broken parts, who also might be able to fix them and reintroduce them into the repair cycle?

Nexus 4: Reviving phone w/ dead battery

Hi,

I wanted to temporarily revive my ancient Nexus 4, but the battery is completely dead from what I can tell ... it will shortly come up with the charging sign on the screen when connected to power, then the red LED will blink forever, sometimes it will turn off eventually, but the battery doesn't seem to take any charge.

There's no point in shelling out some 20-30€ for a new battery, so I thought about just soldering on power to the phone (or the battery cable/connector). I see a V- and V+ mark on the battery lead, not sure if it's the 1st and 3rd lead, or 1st and 4th (which is it?) ... can I just put 3.8V on the +/- leads to get it to power up?
