OnePlus 7 Pro: Half of my display is dead

After a fall, my OP7Pro started acting up. Wouldn’t turn on for a while, but that eventually worked itself out. Now though, the bottom half of my display is dead - by which I mean, the bottom half of the screen is black, but the phone still registers touch on that half of the screen (albeit unreliably). I get the occasional flicker of the actual display too, though this has been happening much less often now.

From watching teardowns, I have no idea why only one part of the screen would be dead. I thought it might be an issue with the optical fingerprint scanner, so I tried taking that out, but still the same problem. Any idea what I might be able to do to fix this?

EDIT: forgot to mention, I’m also getting “ghost touches” in around the middle of the screen, between the working half and non-working half. Happens mostly on the left side of the screen. Don’t know if that helps to figure out what’s wrong/broken.

Could anyone provide detailed instructions or tips on:

1. The best way to remove the back panel without damaging it.

2. Whether the battery needs to be fully removed to access the display cable.

3. Any specific pitfalls to watch out for during reassembly.

OnePlus Nord CE: Replacing screen on OnePlus Nord CE 5G

Hi all, a few weeks ago I dropped my OnePlus Nord CE 5G. It seemingly managed to hit the corner right between the screen protector and the actual case, which cracked a bit of the glass under the screen protector. This caused display issues and the phone wouldn't take any input, and by the end of the day the screen wouldn't display anything at all other than an occasional line or pixel. The phone was working perfectly before this and I know the phone was working other than the screen because my morning alarms still went off for another week before the battery finally drained. 😂 Unfortunately I couldn't get any data off it because I hadn't enabled USB file transfer, you have to activate a different setting to be able to use USB-C keyboards and it also doesn't support screen mirroring over USB-C.

I had a thought about if I could try replacing the screen to be able to access the files if I can find a cheap one. I'm wondering if there are any tutorials or guides for replacing the screen or at least connecting a new one. I had to get a replacement phone so I don't need it to be good enough to use as a daily phone, I just need to be able to type in my pin and enable the USB file transfer when the popup appears. Also, if anyone could advise on what kind of screen to buy as I'm not sure what the difference of it being "with frame" or not is. Thanks!

TLDR: Looking for a guide on replacing OnePlus Nord CE 5G screen and what kind of screen to buy.

OnePlus 8: OnePlus 8 new battery failure - Red lightning bolt error and BMS issues

I purchased a replacement battery (BLP761) for my OnePlus 8. After initial installation, the battery showed 60% and seemed to work. However, shortly after completing the phone assembly, the device failed to boot and showed a red flashing lightning bolt.

I have tried the following troubleshooting steps:

- Leaving the battery to charge for an extended period.

- Disconnecting and reconnecting the battery cable multiple times, including leaving it unplugged for over 2 minutes to drain excess charge.

- Attempting to force boot into recovery mode.

None of these steps worked. When I reinstall the original battery, the phone boots instantly (though the old battery has its own capacity issues). This indicates a BMS or communication failure on the new replacement battery. Furthermore, during the process of removing the faulty new battery to troubleshoot, the battery was bent and the back glass was damaged, resulting in a physical injury from glass fragments.

Has anyone else experienced this specific 'red lightning bolt' failure on a new OnePlus 8 battery despite the original battery still being recognized by the motherboard? I am looking for confirmation if this is a known BMS defect.
