Synology External Storage: Replacing / fixing USB connections on Synology 420j Diskstation?

My NAS became unreliable in recognising external USB disk I was using for regular backups. Now won't display the files on it at all, even though it recognises that a USB device is attached. Initially I assumed a disk problem , but I have found that other systems CAN mount that disk, and the Synology won't recognise known good USB drives that I attach either, so something is presumably damaged in the Synology's USB header or connectors (problem is common to both blue USB 3 sockets). Maybe resulting from recent mains power outages - Any ideas would be very welcome !

Lenovo ThinkBook: BIOS update error; the system is stuck in a BIOS recovery loop and fai

I recently purchased a ThinkBook Plus G7 Auto Twist and found a new BIOS version (TZCN38WW, dated August 13, 2026) for Windows 11 on the Lenovo website. However, after updating and restarting, the device reported an error and attempted recovery from a backup; this process keeps looping, and the machine fails to boot (it is possible the backup itself is corrupted). Please advise me on how to resolve this issue. If possible, could you please send me a BIOS backup from a working unit or an older BIOS version? Thank you very much!

(Due to my circumstances, I am unable to take the device to a Lenovo service center.)

Acer Nitro 5 AN515-58: Acer Nitro 5 AN515-58 - Battery stuck at 0%, orange light, HDMI port not working

My Acer Nitro 5 AN515-58 has a non-charging battery stuck at 0%. The battery indicator light remains a steady orange, and the HDMI port is also not working.

Here is what I have tried so far:

- Performed a power reset (holding power button for 30 seconds)

- Uninstalled and re-installed battery drivers in Windows Device Manager

- Checked the battery report (full charge capacity is around 45,000 mWh, so the battery health itself should be fine)

- Unplugged and re-plugged the internal battery connector

- Inspected the motherboard visually (no visible corrosion found)

Since the battery won't charge past 0%, the orange charging light stays steady, and the HDMI port has stopped working, what could be causing this motherboard-level failure? Could it be a faulty charging IC, power management chip, or shorted power rail? Any guidance on troubleshooting with the LA-L973P schematic would be appreciated.

Dell Alienware 13 R3: New Battery Capacity Question

[Good day all.

I received a new battery from ifixit for an Alienware 13” R3 and it’s rated capacity is 76000 however, after 2 weeks it only charges to 72109.

The team at ifixit offered to refund or replace but before doing either I asked them their opinion. They suggested asking on the forum.

The battery arrived with a very low charge; NBD and I expected after a couple cycles that it would be fine. It seems to me that the battery is already in a degraded state; what are your opinions?

The goal was a fresh start with a full capacity battery; am I expecting too much?

I have no problem replacing it again, just don’t want to be going down a rabbit hole; LOL.

Thank you!!

William

Lenovo IdeaPad 5-14ITL05: New battery stopped being detected

Changed my laptop's battery and calibrated it as per the instructions, and everything worked perfectly. A few days later, it began to not detect it sometimes. Now it does not detect the new battery at all and only turns on when connected to the power cable. Tried unplugging and replugging the battery to see if the connection was off, and now not only does it only turn on with the power cable, it won't turn on if the battery itself is plugged in as well. It ONLY turns on if 'power cable YES, battery NO'. When the battery is connected and the laptop is plugged in the laptop WON'T turn on, only make some internal noises. Battery report shows that there is no battery installed, and shows how it stopped detecting it randomly. Uninstalling the battery driver didn't work. What on earth is going on????

Toshiba Laptop: Where can I find the drivers for this machine?

Before I get burned in the comments for buying a Toshiba, this is a vintage unit with a Celeron Coppermine, this is not one of the modern units. That out of the way... It came with the HD <del>so I can probably defeat the Win9x/ME "security" and drop the driver store folder out of System32 onto a few floppy disks</del> (it had XP installed, not 9x or ME), but if the drive is dead (It works but has SMART errors and spins down/fails to seek at times, it's dead -- -1 Nwipe error while preparing it for a OS), that will not work for me. This one is the 2800-S201. I did get some drivers off of it at least.

I looked on the Dynabook site, and the driver drop does not work for this model. I checked the Internet Archive and found a 2800-500 restore disk set, but the disk probably will not work since these vintage Toshibas are infamous for checking the machine type being I found English UK media and I have a English US model. Outside of that are there any other sources I can get the drivers from if the HD is dead and the driver store trick is a lost cause?
