1999-2005 Pontiac Grand Am: Why is it when driving the RPM gauge drops or jumps up?

When I'm accelerating and get to required speed my RPM gauge either drops and steadies or jumps up then steadies back. Also if i push her too much to go faster too quickly it starts acting like the transmission is slipping. I've figured out that if i stop (in a safe place, of course) and cut the engine and wait a few minutes and restart the engine the transmission is fine again. I was told i needed new intake gaskets, i did that and it's still happening? could it be a sensor?

1999-2005 Pontiac Grand Am: What would cause my car to accelerate after ive braked?

I drove to work today, when I left home I felt that the car was accelerating by itself. I let it hit 40mph before I pressed the brakes. When I stopped at a stop light the engine sounded like it was revving a little. Then I released the brakes and gave it a little gas and it sped right up and I had to keep tapping the brakes to go the posted 25mph.

Now, it's been having some problems leaking the coolant and we just continually pour in coolant and water...it's getting expensive. What can I do to fix the acceleration problem?

1999-2005 Pontiac Grand Am: What could be the knocking noise coming from the engine area?

There is a knocking sound that started coming from my car a couple days ago. It's not a ticking or a clanking knock. It's more of the sound when you take your fisted hand and starting from an inch above a wooden desktop tap at about 1 knock per second. (It's more of a deep and slow, soft knock than most of the sounds I've been hearing while researching online).

To add, I have had a problem with coolant leaking from the thermostat housing gasket—well there was no gasket. We replaced that, and now it doesn't leak—but the coolant is still going somewhere. I don't know where yet....

Any ideas on what the knock is and possibly where my coolant is going? And what fixes do you think would be best?

Thanks for any suggestions. :)

1999-2005 Pontiac Grand Am: Clicking in dashboard after blinker is shut off

I have a 2004 grand am. Recently there has been a clicking that comes from my steering console. It is more apparent after I use the blinker and clicks rapidly. Sometimes it just goes off on a rant even if I haven't used my blinker. I read somewhere that it might be a relay? Is this something I can get to and fix myself inexpesivly? The shop has quoted me $150 just to diagnose the problem. Any help is appreciated!

1999-2005 Pontiac Grand Am: Heater/Defroster does not work

Our 1999 Pontiac Grand AM Heater/De-Froster does not work. We replaced a single fuse (#13) but it did not fix the problem, not sure if it was the right fuse to replace. The fuse map says there are several blower fuses for AC and H/AC. Is there more than one fuse that would keep the heater from working? Thank-you

1999-2005 Pontiac Grand Am: Why does my grand am gt overheat sometimes?

My 2001 grand am started overheating randomly or at least the gauge says it does. When I go for a drive in it I notice it will stay normal then rise to the red, sometimes when turning on the heater it will lower. Sometimes the heater blows cold and sometimes it blows hot, when it does blow hot I notice the level is normal, as soon as it blows cold I can expect the gauge to rise. When driving it the gauge will randomly lower if I accelerate, weird I know but it’s only sometimes. I also notice sometimes it does like a gargaling sound somewhere towards the end of the dashboard, it also sometimes get send vapor out the end of the hood that fogs up my windshield and I have to use the wipers to clean it up. The car has no loss in power whatsoever nor does it the engine do anything to where you would think there is major damage. When the gauge has been all the way to the red, I have opened the hood with the car on and touched the reservoir and the hoses and they are cold. PLEASE HELP, I’ve had this car since high school and she’s my baby I don’t want to let her go this way.
