Epson Printer: Epson ET-4850 Soaked in Slime (inner tube flat repair). Any hope?

My 2 year old opened a bottle of Slime and dumped most of it on my printer. I have small electronics repair experience but was working. My wife spent 5 hours taking it apart and cleaning it--used an entire roll of paper towels so far. She does not have repair experience (she learned what a ribbon cable is today).

We have a small torsion spring which we don't know where it goes. I think I can find it, but man if someone had any guides, manuals, videos, etc. of a teardown and reassembly I could watch...

We don't have $500 to replace it but we definitely have need to use it soon.

I'm absolutely shocked at how thoroughly this nasty green chemical completely lined the entire inside of this printer.

HP Officejet Pro 8620: Printhead appears to be missing not detected or incorrectly installed

I’ve read through most of the other threads on the internet about this problem, but I’m still creating this one both for documentation purposes, and in case someone has a solution that I’ve not thought of! Text in bold are considered important for the troubleshooting.

I bought the HP OfficeJet Pro 8620 printer in 2015 and up until december 2019 it has worked perfectly. One day out of the blue, I recieved this error message: “The printhead appears to be missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed. Error code 0xc19a0023" . I reseated the printhead one time and the printer worked until next day, when the same error appeared. I followed HP’s troubleshooting steps 1. reset printer 2. reseat printhead 3 times 3. updating firmware, but no luck. I’ve disassembled the printhead and cleaned the contacts on PC board. I ordered this cleaning solution and cleaned the printhead, both soaking in the solution for some time and pushing the solution through. No luck. I then went on to buy this new print head from eBay, but the new one instantly gave the same error message.

Then I continued to troubleshoot some more. Since the new printhead failed I thought maybe the problem is in the printhead carriage inside the printer. I disassembled it and cleaned the contacts on the PC board. (This one is also possible to buy on aliexpress , but I’ve not done it). Everything looks ok. All the pins are undamaged. I’ve reset the CMOS battery on the main board, disconnected all cables and checked the cables specificly for the printhead carriage. I don’t have the equipment or knowledge to test if the cables actually work, but everything looks ok. Still getting the error message.

One last thing that I came by today on this page is that it might be the unoriginal ink that I installed for the first time last time I replaced my cartridges (about 3 months ago, I switched the last color from original HP to unoriginal). Could it really be the problem? Is it still worth a try to buy new original HP cartridges and will it even fix the problem? Or is the damage done already and not reversable? I’m a bit hesitant to invest more on this printer since I already blew up 72 EUR for the printhead…. Returning the printhead to China from where I live costs almost 40 EUR so it’s not worth the refund.

EDIT: I found an official statement from HP about a new firmware update removing Dynamic Security Feature which makes the printer fail when unoriginal ink is installed. However they explicitly say it’s only connected to a cartridge error message. Other error messages are not related. So in theory I’ve already solved this issue, when I updated my printer to the newest firmware early in the troubleshooting process. Both printheads give the same error message. This decreses my belief in buying new original ink to fix the problem…

EDIT 2: I found the old original HP empty cartridges I had before and installed them just to see if it would remove the error, but it didn’t. So now I don’t have to waste money on buying new ink at least…

Or am I missing something else? Thanks for helping out!

Epson Printer: Is there a solution for Epson ink cartridges not being recognized?

I purchased a new box of "genuine Epson" ink; all of the colors (black, magenta, cyan, and yellow.

I removed the empty cartridges (cyan, magenta and yellow were low), shook all of the cartridges, pulled off the tape cover and installed the cyan, magenta and yellow cartridges.

The cyan ink cartridge was the only cartridge that could not be recognized at that time.

So, I reseated the cyan cartridge. I still got the message that it wasn’t recognized.

Then I reseated the cyan cartridge again. I still got the message that it wasn’t recognized.

So then, I power cycled the printer.

I turned the printer off, I unplugged the printer from the wall, and I unplugged the power cord from the printer for a complete power cycle for about 5 minutes.

I plugged the power cord into the printer, plugged the cord into the wall outlet and turned on the power button.

That did not solve the problem.

I went to the Epson Support Services site and other internet sites and saw tips for solving this problem.

I followed the instructions on the Epson site, which were the same steps that I had tried as I mentioned above, but this time, I used a soft cloth to clean the cyan connections on the cartridge and in the cartridge carriage and I checked each cartridge to make sure the gold colored chip was on the cartridges. They all have the gold colored chip.

It didn’t fix the problem.

Then I saw a tip that said that installing firmware would fix some problems with the printer.

So I entered my printer information and was returned a download of firmware for my printer.

The firmware installed successfully.

Now, the black ink cartridge that had been working is no longer being recognized along with the cyan ink cartridge.

It seems when you install a defective cartridge and then take it out, the cartridge carriage in the printer becomes “unture” and if that’s not the case, then the problem has to be with the firmware or maybe both.

Something in the printer seems to get set when you install and then remove a defective cartridge. Somehow there is no way for the printer to reset itself to accept another cartridge install.

How do you make the printer "un-remember" the removed cartridge?

So now what do I do? How can I fix this problem?

Epson Printer: Two lights flashing at same time and printer stops during printing

My Epson L1800 DTF printer will start printing perfectly. During printing, it will make a knocking noise as the printhead moves back and forth. It locks up and both lights start flashing. I have tried pulling out waste ink, cleaning and lubricating the shaft, cleaning the clear strip and also the yellow carriers. I have turned the machine off and waited overnight. I have blown out the paper feed. I have tried unidirectional printing. Any ideas appreciated. I am at a standstill with orders waiting...

Update (11/22/23)

Thank you for your help, but I think I fixed it. I have tanks, not cartridges on mine. I make sure they are always full. I changed the setting on printing speed. It was checked for high-speed printing and I unchecked it. So far, so good. I have 2 of these printers and the one that was throwing the error printed much faster than the one that is doing ok. Again, thank you so much for trying to help! I have fought this fight for several months now and have watched every Youtube video I could find!

Update (11/24/23)

Well, printed great for 1 day and started doing the same thing again... I give up!

Update (11/25/23)

The noise is coming from the printhead as it moves back and forth. Do you have any idea which part I need to check. I am thinking it is in the hardware, not software, but I have no idea what part to check. Thank you so much for all your help. The printer is brand new, less than 2 months old and since it is a dtf converted printer I purchased on Amazon, the support is not very good.

epson l3150: Printer does not print in color even after cleaning

Hello,

I have an Epson L3110 and for some weeks the color printing was getting weaker and weaker.

I followed youtube and cleaned the print head using isopropanol and warm distilled water. After cleaning, there was no blockage to water flowing through the printhead ... everything seemed great. After putting the printhead back in, I did nozzle cleaning 4x to make sure the printhead was loaded with color ... and the color printing was OK!

I turned the printed off for the night and the next day, printing in color resulted in nothing being printed, only black printing worked! I cleaned the head again, did 5x nozzle cleaning to fill the printhead with color, I made sure there is no air in the tubes and when printing in color .. nothing happenned, I still cannot print anything in color.

What am I doing wrong?

Best,
