iPhone 5s: Discussing methods for performing a glass only repair as a business?

So as the title says, I'm looking to start performing glass only repairs on iPhone 5S's, 5C's, Samsung's etc. There are several methods ranging from several price ranges, but for what I want to do I want a high success rate, and 0 bubbles. I want an efficient business setup (I am a business owner) to explore these cheaper repairs.

These are the two things I was looking;

The first, LOCA (Liquid Optical Clear Adhesive) Which is applied on the screen after separation and cleaning then after the removal of bubbles it is then cured under a UV lamp.

The second, OCA (Optically Clear Adhesive) which comes in pre-cut sheets that are applied to the LCD and the glass is attached.

I was originally leaning towards LOCA, and now OCA, but I have queries with the pressure methods of removing residual bubbles in the gap between the glass and the screen. There are two ways to remove bubbles, an autoclave, and a vacuum chamber. I am wondering, for anyone who has experienced, which works better for what method? Also, if the vacuum chamber is a viable option, do you think it would be possible to make your own (having the knowledge and tooling of course). Is heat necessary when removing bubbles? To my understanding it works best at roughly 60 degrees centigrade(140 degrees Fahrenheit). How do you heat the screen in a vacuum? Would any autoclave work? Or would I need to fork out the $1500 for a purpose built autoclave? What pressure is required for these bubble removals? I'm looking for the most cost effective professional method for performing glass only repairs on phones, while still having some level of automation and a high success rate? What do you guys recommend? I really appreciate any tips from guys already doing this. Thanks so much! :)

P.S. Could anyone explain exactly how each bubble removing method has an effect on each type of screen adhesive? I have heard that using an autoclave with LOCA would make it spit out the sides? The vacuum chambers make the bubbles expand and then come out the side, how long does this process take? It just seems to worsen it while looking at it. Sorry for all the questions but it's a lot to invest, especially for someone of my age (15).

Sorry if this belongs in Meta, I wasn't quite sure.

iPhone 3G: iPhone constantly searching for carrier (no service)

Hi,

I dropped my iPhone, and now I get a "no service" message.

When the phone boots up (or after switching the airplane mode on and off) it finds the signal (at the weakest level)—but after 10 seconds, the signal is lost and the phone starts searching for the carrier again...

Everything else works normally (WiFi, etc.), and I can use it as a "Skype" phone, listen to music, and surf the web.

My OS is 3.1.2 (with 05.11.07 baseband).

I tried the following (without success):

Doing full restore with DFU mode on clean iTunes

Opening the iPhone and making sure no cables are loose

Switching off 3G

Does anyone have any advice? What else could I try?

iPhone X: iPhone X restarting with apple logo after water got inside

Hi had took my iPhone X to beach last sunday and due to sudden wave, my iphone X under by tracks got wet, but i took the phone in less than 10 secs and saw that it was working.. But after 5 mins i saw that the phone was restarting in apple logo and did not go past the logo. (Apple logo comes for 5 secs and then a blank screen for 5 secs and so on). I did a hard reset to turn the phone off, but after 2 hours, I could see that the phone again turned on, but Face Id was not working and then in 5 min started restarting.

I completely hard reset the phone and took the phone to Apple care as it was under warranty. After a days inspection, they said that they cannot service it as it was water is inside which they identified from LCI color.

Now am struck and feeling really disappointed that this phone is not working fine and no one is out there to help in apple.

Can somebody support me with your views?

Can I have some hope of getting this serviced at-least from an unauthorized service center or any first aid I can do about myself?

Thanks For Your Time in going through my post :)

iPhone 5c: Screen popped out on the top right corner

I just noticed that my 5C's screen popped out of the plastic chassis on the top right corner. The phone was put in an Otter Box by the salesman the day I bought it and it was never dropped seriously (from my lap on a carpet once or twice, but no more than that).

I've read somewhere that putting it on a flat surface and pressing on the back until it clicks back into place might work, but I'm scared it could break something, especially if it's battery problem (like some macbooks I've seen)

What do you think?

iPhone 6s: Touch IC ios 11 error

Hi all! First, thank you for being there for all us repairshops all over the world!

My issue is - i work in a repairshop and we do a lot of iphone repair among others. I've been using a semi original screen for the repairs i've done - original LCD and Digitizer, the rest is high copy. There has never been issues with these screens ever since iphone 6s arrived on the market. But, they all have unoriginal Touch-IC on them (on the screen, if unoriginal, it'll be all blank) and again, they always worked fine for us.

Now, a few days ago Apple released IOS 11 - and since then, i've had 2 phones who, between 30 seconds to 1 minute after updating to IOS 11, lost touch completely. I've had 10 different screens on them, none working in touch - but if i take a broken original screen and plug it on, everything works just fine. DFU restore does not help, maybe momentarily, but touch will stop working again within short time.

I've been asking colleagues and others if they experinced anything like that, but none have, because IOS 11 has only been around for a few days, and no one wants to update right away. It's just weird that 2 phones in 2 days have done the same. It is as if they bumped up the voltage in the screen by just a little bit in the IOS, so the unoriginal IC's will fail. Maybe i'm just going crazy and seeing conspiracys, so any one who experienced anything like this, please come forward :)

The same issue was on LG nexus 5x, however this was an error in the production and an inferior NAND that could not stand the tiny bump up in the voltage during the update, and LG swapped boards under warranty - but this is not the same situation, i'm just saying it's been seen before :)

Update (10/14/2017)

Hi ya'll..

Sorry for my absence - and thank you for all your contributions! It seems that good guy Apple (irony may occur) have solved this one for us on IOS 11.0.3. If your or your customers phone decide to throw touch, force update to 11.0.3, and all should be good. This is only regarding iphone 6S, none other. The other models/cases in this thread are sadly mostly results of faulty screen or an error made by the technician :)

But, we have another problem facing us: iphone 7/7+ - if you are so unlucky to break your homebutton or sensor flex, your phone will not boot, it will just stay at the apple logo. You simply cannot just go changing them with aftermarket parts or OEM parts, it must be fully original (not chinese-original), which means 1. much, much harder to get, 2. much, much more expensive. This does, however, not effect screens, you can easily use the high copy grade - as long as the small parts are ORIGINAL! So, fair warning my friends, be very careful not to bust anything when taking the screens apart. Basically, Apple reinstated error code 53, but not as an itunes error, more as a phone that'll brick when booting. If you switch to original parts, it boots just fine again. Apple has not yet solved this in the latest update like they did touch-ic error on iphone 6S, and who knows if they will at all. Back in the day, they got convicted into removing error 53 (if you had aftermarket homebutton installed on ip6, your phone would brick on updating in itunes, until original button was mounted), as it was a violation of consumer rights, as Apple was making it possible, only for Apple to fix it. We are facing the same problem here, basically - and as i see it, there are 2 solutions: Apple will have to change this (as this haven't been a problem the since ip7/7+ release, but is a new thing in thread with ios 11), or we be very careful, and buy original parts when we mess up. My personal opinion: get a lawsuit going, so we get the possibility and freedom of using the parts we want (and the customers want in most cases, as it is much cheaper for them as well), back!

iPhone 7: Black screen of death

So I got the "black screen of death" on my iPhone 7 128gb silver on iOS 10.3 while casually using my phone the other day. The screen faded to black slowly and wouldn't show again, I could feel the home button vibrate so I knew it was still on but the silent switch doesn't make the phone vibrate. so I tried soft reset- didn't work, tried letting it die then charging- didn't work, tried update- didn't work, finally tried restore in both Dfu and recovery mode didn't work, so after that I assumed maybe it was the LCD so I tried a new one that didn't work either.

Now I'm stuck with a paperweight iPhone 7 that is less than a month old, I would contact apple but I was told warranty won't cover it anymore since i opened it to try a new LCD. Is there anything you guys would recommend? Any and all help is appreciated, very little info about my problem online. Thank you for your time.

iPhone 3GS: How to turn off an iPhone 3GS without using the power-button?

Hello there,

This is my first post here, so I apologize in advance if I missed something. It's a rather practical question.

Is there a way to turn off the iPhone (3GS in my case) without using the power button? The button works physically - I can press it (and it feels normal) - but to no effect. Since I don't want to open it while it is still powered on, I wonder if there is an alternative to waiting until the battery runs out and the phone turns off by itself.

Thanks,

iPhone 6: :( HELP! How do I fix a small dent on iPhone 6?

Hi IFIXIT,

Bad news! CRUD!!!!!! Yesterday I just dropped my new naked iPhone 6... I left it in my hoodie's left pocket while I was at my job, I ducked and reached down to get an ingredient to make something and IT FREAKIN' SLIPPED and hit the tile floor lightly and it made a small DENT!!!! Ughhh the worst day ever.... I almost LOST IT.. I was just glad it's still fully functional and works.. also, luckily it just a really small fall on the edge side with no screen crack or any malfunctions... BUT I still felt extremely bummed afterwards. So what I am unfortunately left with is a small nasty dent scratch... It's not very noticeable but it sure as heck noticeable to me. Every time I think of my iPhone, bam I think about that darn dent.. HORRIBLE.. It is a constant reminder of how I seriously messed up and should've left it in my pocket that is bigger and gotten a protector case immediately after buying the iPhone 6.... :(

Is there ANY WAY, HOPE, to fix this problem? Sanding? Replacement? Send to a cellphone shop for repairs? Online repairs? Replacements? Anything?? I would do anything to get rid of those dents. Sadly, I have no insurance for the iPhone... so I can't just go back and get a new one or w/e.. Blah, I feel extremely miserable right now; you guys don't understand.. Thing is, during the time I thought if I keep my grip on it very well, be very cautious with it, I will not drop it at all until the protector case comes from mail so I can put it on.... but I made the stupid mistake of putting it in a small hoodie pocket NEW and NAKED...!!! And it dropped on it's own..... THE MADNESS! LESSON LEARNED!!! I WILL NEVER PUT ANYTHING expensive and unprotected IN MY HOODIE POCKET EVER AGAINNNN.. BAHHHH this is driving me so CRAZY and INSANE! Sorry for venting guys, it's just sooooo frustrating and sad... a $750 phone and bam, I dropped it already.... UNBELIEVABLE... *SIGH*

Thank you guys for taking the time to hear me out on this one.. You guys must've had enough of my rage-ranting lol..

Alright... so I want to get to the bottom of this... how do I fix the dent? There's gotta be a way... any advice and help on what to do next would seriously, greatly be appreciated guys... I would do whatever it takes to get it that rounded edge that has a small little dent restored and back to normal-looking again....

iPhone: Reprogramming the NAND Flash and device ID on iPhone and iPad

I am wondering if anyone has done it. The Apple projected their sales on iPhone over 24Mil device more than before. All I can see the trend started after iCloud activation lock is introduced. There are hundreds of thousands of bricked iPhones sitting around or may be taken apart as no one care.

I am wondering if it is possible to change the device ID and IMEI to make the system think it is a new device. That will get those phones back to use again.

I feel like we are just screwing each other while those billion dollar corporations and wealthy people were getting richer every day.

I lost two phones and one was stolen from my car but I did not bother to lock it. I just wiped it and let it go as I already knew there is no way I will get those phones back. So let it sit somewhere in the closet or the person stole my phone will sell it to pay for food or shelter or drug or what ever. At least it will still be useful.

Long story short, have anyone done it and if so how it come out? I am just curious before I spend money for the programmers and screw myself with junks.

iPhone 5c: U2 IC for iPhone 5C replacement

Hi Guys,

Last few days my iphone 5C is acting weird, Its getting hot, Its charging very slow and draining the whole battery in 90 minutes on standby. First few days it was not draining that fast but as mention above now its draining very fast.

I searched many forums and tried many things like deleting exchange, restoring and switching off SIRI but to no vale but one of the person mention that he changed the U2 IC and this resolved the issue. He was very clear that he used non certified iphone charging cable (Which is normal because Iphone battery is not excellent that it last long and you have to get it charge many times and sometimes you do it at your friend house and end up using non certified cable). I did the same and also i find out that IOS 7 + recognize the non certified cable straight away and it is damaging the U2 IC.

Now my questions.

1. What do you think about the issue? You think it is U2 IC problem?

2. I am trying to buy U2 IC but i am not able to find for 5C instead everyone is selling for 5 and 5S. So can we use a 5 or 5S IC for 5C? If not

3. Can you tell me the part name or number for this U2 IC for iphone 5C and the place i can get it from.

Last question is that is it easy to repair the U2 IC. In my country we do not have excellent repair shops and i already check with Apple retailer and they said that they cannot repair this. I still have water damage IPHONE 4S sitting idol in my table where i could not get the power IC changed because no one was able to change it in my city.

By the way i am in Saudi Arabia.

Ok I replaced my Iphone 6s screen today. At first before I took off the old screen the worked despite the digitizer and lcd being broken. So I took off the old screen and put the home button and everything back in the correct way. The new screen won't show anything. When I plug it into my macbook it asks for permission and to confirm it on the screen. Does that mean the phone is still on and I just can't see anything on the screen? I've tried the holding down the power button to reset it that didn't do anything. I've tried holding down power and home to no avail. I've tried shining a light at it to see if the backlight was messed up the screen doesn't show anything. Any other suggestions?

iPhone 3G: Why can't I turn the phone on?

I took the front off of the phone to place the 1 tab back into position as I was getting a white screen issue. After putting the phone back together I couldn't get it to turn back on. I didn't even fully take it apart, only lifted the screen long enough to put the tab back into place. Any suggestions?
