iPhone 12: My phone goes into a bootloop anytime it's plugged in

Title says it all, anytime I plug a lightning port into my phone (connected to a charger or not), the phone freezes, then restarts, shows the apple logo, then black screens over and over, and if it's still plugged in, eventually it leads to the recovery screen, before restarting the boot-loop shortly after ; on top of that, unless I have airpods / a bluetooth sound device connected to my phone, videos do not play and there's no sound or haptics from the phone.

To try and diagnose the issue, I tried pretty much everything, replacing the lightning connector altogether, the loudspeaker, the taptic engine, even the light sensor on the screen but no dice, the issue still happens and I don't know what to do

The issue popped out of nowhere too, it worked one day, went to bed and it stopped working the next.

Other than that, the phone works fine, but trying to look at the panic logs didn't provide anything of use either

Lemme know if you have any solutions to this!

iPhone 12: Replaced rear glass, damaged flashlight and now front camera is black?

Hi All,

A few days ago I replaced the rear glass on my iphone 12 - it went relatively smoothly, but I managed to accidentally break the flashlight off during the replacement - the rear camera still works fine (without the light / flash of course) - but the front camera doesn't work at all anymore - is this because of the flash ? - If I replace the flashlight ribbon, is that likely to fix the front camera problem?

I don't know if it's something different - but face ID still works fine! - does that use the front camera or is that a different component again?

Thanks

iPhone 12: Face ID And True tone Disabled

Hi, so I got an iphone 12 from somebody that disconnected the front ear speaker because he said that the cable is broken and the problem is of course the face id because when I try to set it up it says "Face ID is not available, Try setting up Face ID later. And my question is theres a way if i connect the broken cable to the motherboard again will I regain the face id and the true tone function back ?(I know probably it is a stupid question but i am very curious because I have an iPhone x which has the same problem, but on the iPhone x I can t even tap on the "set up Face id" because it says something like "a problem has been detected with your true depth camera"....blah...blah).

iPhone 12: Screen very dark after replacement?

So I've replaced my screen with a new one, brought over the earpiece and now the screen is very dark. Face ID works fine and all. I've read that the ambient light sensor if damaged, will result in having the lowest possible brightness.

However, I moved back the earpiece to the original screen and brightness just worked as it should. Then I put it back on the new screen and it doesn't work. Of course, for sanity check, I moved it back onto the original screen and it all just works.

Is it possible that the new screen needs to be reprogrammed first for the brightness to work? What a goofy issue.

I am considering replacing the battery in my iPhone 12 since it has begun to degrade a bit in terms of battery life but isn't too far gone (yet) so I'm not in a rush to get this done for the time being. Overall I used to get 1.5-2 days easily (I bought the phone used, so the battery was at ~98% since I had it); now it is down to ~24 hours after 3 years.

Based on the battery data, am I due for a trip to the store to get this done or can I hold out on this battery until the 15 comes out*?
*It's coming up due since this one is a few generations old at this point (currently 3, will become 4 generations old soon).

iPhone 12: No signs of life, draws power from wireless charger but not wired

My friend's iPhone 12 shows no signs of life (nothing on screen, no charging noises/vibration, etc.) I don't have a USB power meter but I have a kill-a-watt style meter. Using that with an Apple 5w charging brick shows the phone sometimes drawing about half a watt for a second at a time, but ultimately not drawing any power. (I cleaned the charging port and nothing changed.) With a wireless charger, the meter shows about 6 watts and the light on the wireless charger is on, signaling that a device is charging. I left it on the wireless charger for about half an hour and it kept drawing power, and got hot (I don't know if it would normally get as hot as it did, I don't use wireless charging for my devices) but still didn't power on.

I opened the phone and tried to measure the battery voltage with a multimeter, but got 0v. However, I couldn't find a pinout online so I might not have been measuring it on the right contacts, but I tried all the contacts I could.

I was thinking it might be a battery issue before I tested with the wireless charger but now I fell like it could be something else. I don't have much experience troubleshooting this kind of issue, so any advice will be much appreciated.

iPhone 12: Cellular not working after battery replacement

Hi Community

I replaced the battery in my iPhone 12 and now my phone doesn’t have working cellular. It might occasionally give me a few bars but mostly not, also when I tried to update on wifi it said it couldn’t verify my update because it wasn’t connected to the internet even though wifi was fine.

I suspect I have done damaged or dislodged something since opening the phone was very difficult and my attempted as removing the old gasket were also difficult so I could have caused damage then.

In order for me to at least attempt to fix it I need to know what the most likely component to be faulty is and where it is. I’ve successfully replaced many batteries on older models but i’m a novice when it comes to other parts in these phones so looking for some direction. I have gone back into the phone reconnected everything and gone over it but I can’t tell what might be wrong. Any ideas and pictures showing the potentially offending parts would be helpful.

iPhone 12: Can I clean the Ambient Light Sensor with ispropryl?

Coworker brought in his wife’s iPhone 12 that was having issues with the screen being super dim randomly after it boots. Figure it’s probably the ambient light sensor and sure enough find the tiniest spot of patina on one of the contact points on the back of the display where a drop of water got in (trying to explain to people that’s enough to kill something is a struggle though)

I’m not interested in fussing around with transferring components over to a new flex to keep Face ID (because reasons) so he’s just getting a Self Repair display and I’m going to do it for him since his wife wants to make sure Face ID stays intact.
