iPhone 3GS: different types of front panel connectors...? (cable #2)

Hello.

I ordered a repair set at Amazon.com for my iPhone 3G.

No mistakes possible one would assume...

Beware ! Connector #2 comes in various types.

Now I am stuck with a wrong front panel. What to do about that?

The old cable says: 821-0766-A (2008)

The new one says: 821-0621-A (2009)

How can one know the differences?

The screens are sold as if it is quite easy to replace a screen.

Not at all!

I have not seen any warnings that the screens/connectors come in different shapes. It shows afterwards, when it is too late.

What can be done about this?

iPhone 3GS: Liquid damage, everything works except for SIM card reader & backlight

My new iPhone 3GS fell into a vase of clean tap water. As a first emergency step I tried to dry it with towel and then leave it inside a bag of rice (I read that it can help salvage water damaged mobile phone).

3-4 days later, it is dry and works fine. I can watch video, listen to music, connect to internet, and play game with the responsive touch screen. However the back light no longer works. The screen became dark and almost impossible to read it under the sunlight. Also now, it doesn't read any of the SIM card.

Obviously because it is because of water damage, the guarantee doesn't work. I can't afford the service charge. Please help! Any suggestions are welcome.

I tried to clean out the earphone jack as it was explained in youtube, but no effect. Is it possible that one of the cables 1, 2 or 3 is responsible for the ear speaker? Could I have replugged them badly?

iPhone 3GS: Why does my screen have lines across?

I was replacing my broken LCD screen. The iPhone was powered off. I disconnected the ribbons 1, 2, and 3. I then noticed that there was some dirt on the connector of ribbon 1 (on the board). I wasn't thinking too much and decided that instead of just blowing to get rid of the dirt I decided to remove it with a tiny screwdriver. Then I saw a spark. I didn't have to test anything, I knew I had made a big mistake. Anyways, I continued putting the phone back together and the result is in this video. I hope someone can help me find a solution.

iPhone 3GS: Repairing water damaged iPhone - backlight intermittent

I took it apart down and gave the logic board a good soak in 90% alcohol, and gently scrubbed it down with a toothbrush (noticing and removing some corrosion that appeared on the 6r8 coil). Backlight worked for 3 days. This could help most people.

I, however, am not most people. The backlight went out again. Soaked the logic board again in alcohol, overnight this time. Worked until I shut the phone off, then no backlight when I turned it on again. Any ideas on this one?

iPhone 3GS: Phone shuts off every 15 minutes and turns on by itself

Last week I started a project to repair my brother's old broken iphone 3gs (no idea how it broke) mainly because I had the money, time, and the feel to explore my inner self (kind of corny I know). So I lent the phone to a local radio shack and asked what parts needed replacement and said the phone was in so much damage that it seemed that every part except for the camera, logic board, and dock connector seemed fine. So they guys at radio shack offered to repair it but the price didn't agree with me so I looked online for the best prices and trusted websites (advice from friends) and bought every part imaginable and started to repair. I successfully repaired the phone to it's former state but the only problem I encountered were that the power button would not work and the phone would randomly shut off and would turn itself back on. This would occur every 15 - 20 of use. A day later during work, there was a birthday party and some of the kids like to play games (a lot) and would play games on anything that has a screen, so then they found my phone in my room played around with it and left it on the couch where then my 350lb uncle came to have a sit and fortunately sat on the phone. a couple hours later when I came home after work I found my phone to be in good condition (on the outside) but then would shut down 5 seconds after plugging the phone into my computer to turn it on. So I open my phone to find that the contact between the battery and the logic board has been cleaned by rubbing alcohol and a fairly tiny piece on the dock connector fell out and seemed to have been ripped out by accident (my brother's way of trying to help). So now that pretty much sums up my problem, I know its a long story but I wanted to state myself clear to show what happened.
