You want to try and reset the SMC and the PRAM first. This is done by first shutting down, removing all peripherals and the battery than holding the power button for 5+ seconds (SMC rest). Afterwords boot holding the command, option, p, r button combo and hold them till you hear the startup chime happen 3 times.

If this does not help test an external monitor to see if that gets a picture.
