Actually, I recently had to replace my evo with a newer one. I much prefer the newer screen. I believe the more "expensive" display you are referring to was the novatek screens, where as the "cheaper" screens are the epsons. In my opinion, while not quite as bright as the nova screens, the epson screens produce a much better color quality. For me, that is preferable in a screen. Others prefer the brighter nova which also seem to have a SLIGHT purply hue to the coloring.
-Oh and just an FYI, your hardware info number eg. 002 and 003, does NOT automatically tell you which screen you have. There have been both nova and epson screens since launch with both screens being found on 002 and 003 revisions. Just check the android forums or xda. I won't go into how to tell which you have here, but there are plenty of ways to tell the other sites.
