Then noticed upper left corner edge had lifted by small amount. Seemed to get worse after another charge. I don't use external case.

Checked web sites - battery fault seemed likely. Took it to Apple Store. They agreed and diagnostic showed battery out of green area.

Instant replacement with brand new iphone5 - result! Guess upgrade will have to wait a bit.
