I had a related issue with chime boot loop in my Macbook Air 11" 2011, similar to Eugene mac's problem. But mine was due to FaceTime (built-in iSight camera) instead flash EFI chip. Just posting as reference that could help someone in the future. See full report here: [post|438061]
