The first issue I ran into with this was realizing that if you plug the power supply into a surge protection strip, it will almost always lock up. The best way to prevent this is to simply plug it into the wall. Make sure it's got a lot of air and isn't in a tight place. Otherwise, you'd have to get a bit more techincal with it, often involving replacements. It's not nice to spend the 100 for a repair, but I would not recommend doing unapproved procedures, as Microsoft can and will check for these if you try them. If you send it in, they will give it back reporting that they will not attempt to fix an opened unit.
