Why won't my dualshock 4 won't turn on or charge from either port?
I need help troubleshooting my DS4 controller. It is only 3 months old and is in mint condition. I purchased it to use with iPad. It worked excellent until recently. I charge it using a powerA docking station that used the microUSB port. It puts out DC 5V at 800 mAmps. Everything worked perfect until I noticed that the controller would not turn off at the end of my gaming session. It had a green or orange light that was slowly blinking (can’t remember which) and it was unresponsive to any buttons including the PS4 button which I held down for more than 30 seconds with no response. After trying different cables and chargers with no response I decided to use the reset button on the back of the controller. I put a paperclip in the hole and held for 10 seconds. The light went out and refused to turn back on. I then called playstation support and they were completely unhelpful. They told me to take the controller to gamestop and have them check all the buttons and functionality. They said this because I do not own a playstation console, but only use it for my iOS devices. Gamestop plugged it in and found that all the buttons worked correctly including the PS4 button. They said however that the microUSB port is notorious for becoming loose. He suggested to replace the microUSB port or try a different dock that uses the EXT port to charge. I purchased an EXT port dock and got no response. No LED’s or any other sign that the controller is charging. So I determined to replace the port as described on another iFixit article, but I decided to attempt connecting the DS4 to my windows PC. It worked! I was able to use the controller with the cable connected as long as I didn’t move the cable around very much. This suggested that the microUSB port is intact as long as a good connection is made. When I plug the controller into the PC it gives a slow green blinking light as though it is charging. It will stay that way for hours, but the moment I pull it off of the cable there is no response from any of the buttons and all the LEDs remain off. Normally I would just send it into SONY as its covered under warranty, but since COVID-19 is out there I hoped there was something else I could try. Does this sound like a battery issue? I would appreciate any suggestions! Summary of steps taken: * cleaned all connections within charging ports * reset controller via rear pinhole reset button. * unable to charge with EXT port dock * unable to charge with microUSB dock. also tried different microUSB cables. * able to connect to PC via microUSB with slow green blinking light, but nothing once removed from cable * verified all buttons work correctly on windows 10 when plugged in via microUSB
