Yes. There is a little sensor that is part of the wireless charge coil that needs to be connected in order for the phone to keep from rebooting.

The only issue here is that, in my recollection not only does the wireless charge coil need to be connected, the sensor it needs to communicate with to prevent this panic needs to be the one from the phones original charge coil (or an OEM one that is capable of being "paired" with Apple's [link|https://support.apple.com/en-us/120579|repair assistant tool].
