These powerbook models, to my knowledge, must have some charge left in the battery to start. If I completely drain my PowerBook G4 I have to put another somewhat charged battery in it before it can start. Once it is started you can keep it pugged in and change the batteries. I would ask if a friend has a battery you could borrow or maybe a coworker.
