Loose Battery Terminal causing apple logo boot loop?

Hi

I did some repairs on my i4 the other day and when I removed the battery, the battery terminal lifted up from the board (although it still looks attached to the 4 solder points)

The battery was also faulty so I have removed it, Now when I try to power the phone from mains it turns on properly and shows the 'Connect to iTunes' screen, however when powering through USB the apple logo comes on for a few seconds before restarting and looping.

Is this due to the battery terminal coming loose? if so do I need to just redo the soldering for the 4 pins? or do the 2 circular pins under the terminal do anything apart from hold the terminal to the board?

Thanks

J

i also have this problem on my iphone 5s. Same thing happened. i dropped it and now it wont turn on. i tried to research about it and tried to do the itunes thing. however when i started the recovery it says something like error. i also tried putting a book over it and applied pressure because i saw a video about putting pressure helps put the battery or the connector back in place. are there any alternatives other than prying it open?

Good find. We generally pay more in OZ . Worth noting this type of product is for low voltage low current applications only.

LOL just realised the original question is from last year! Oh well at least we answered Rene's question :)

Hi James -

Good question. In our experience, this looping is caused by a battery connector terminal that is lifted from the pads (and not making a proper circuit). It may be that either one of the pads lifted under the connector terminal OR it could be that the connector terminal has a cracked lead (from the leg down to the pad).

We see this issue every day in our shop. We regularly repair these iPhone damaged battery connector terminals.

The solder pads, under the connector terminal, have a tail that comes off of the pad and connects in to the trace. It is CRITICAL (I REPEAT...CRITICAL) that and solder pad repair be correctly repaired. To do so, you will need to REPLACE each missing solder pad. The new solder pad will then be resoldered to the trace. You can achieve this by carefully removing the top layer of the trace until you see the exposed copper. You can now resolder the pad tail to the trace.

Contact us if you need assistance or have further questions. We have over a 91% success rate of repairing these missing damaged pads and traces on the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S.

Would it still work if you used Super Glue

instead of solder.Just wondered.

Super Glue is really not the way to go if you want a reliable connection. If you solder it you will know that it works and you will never have to second guess about it. Also, think about working on your iPhone later on again. It could be a nasty mess....:-) Solder it!

I have a iphone 4s which has this loop. I also think that the problem is about the circuit. Changing the battery can't fix this problem. So maybe something else. Is there any way that I can make sure whether it's the problem of connector, not the logic board. If it's about logic board, it's out of my capability. Thanks for you information.
