ok so I was doing an LCD replace and I pulled the airport wire out of the gold connector I have two airport wires one black and one gray the black one is the one that broke. I'm wondering, do I have to solder the wire back on or can I simply open up and reinsert the cable?

You might be able to re-crimp the cable... check at an electronics parts store for a new one (take the old one along) sometimes it's easier to use the proper tool and connector than to try and repair or cobble together a damaged one.
