I have a iPod touch 4th gen. with the chord doc broken?

My iPod touch 4th gen cord dock has broken. The black plastic that covers and protects the prongs IN the dock of the iPod has broken leaving the prongs exposed. So when I plugged the chord back it bent two prongs now i dont have an iPod. my question is can i buy just the doc and can i just follow the parts breakdown? Thanks

mattdrex87, you will of course have to totally disassemble the iPod. The dock connector is solder onto the board. You will have to do lots of soldering. You will have to un-solder two anchors and about 30 connections, they are very small and close to each other. So, you have to take extra care not to shorten the pins out. After that, you will have to resolder all those connections and the two anchors. Not an easy task, unless you are used to soldering small pieces. This video is not for a 4th gen but will give you an idea what you are up against. Here is a pretty decent tutorial as well. Hope this helps, good luck.
