Cleaning the Mac's innards when you are replacing the HD

Plan to exchange original HD for 2TB one. When at it, noticed quite some dust in/on fans and other places. Once read (do not remember where) that it is unwise to vacuumclean the innards. Why?

I have ESD-safe brushes and other gear, will mechanically block the fans (so they cannot act as windmill generator) and use the VC on its lowest powersetting and will maintain at least a 10 cm or 4 inch distance between hose-intake and innards. Still unwise?

Greetings from continental Europe.

Vacuums in-fact create a static charge! The air sucked in at the nozzle creates a mini Van de Graaff generator within the air stream between the different air pressures. - As Machead stated use Can'ed Air to blow the dust and junk away. Scrubbing with a soft artist brush (being careful not to snag any parts with the brush) to help loosen the dust is also a good idea.

Parts can be knocked, torn, or sucked off the board with careless use of a vacuum, that's why blowing is recommended. With your attention to care you should suffer no ill effects.
