RAM Upgrade - CPU Panic

Hello,

I own a MacBook Pro 15" Mid 2010. Currently I have 4GB of RAM and I wanted to upgrade them to 8GB. So, I bought these:

2 x Corsair 4GB DDR3 SDRAM Memory Module - CM3X4GSD1066

Corsair - Memory - 4 GB - SO DIMM 204-pin - DDR3 - 1066 MHz / PC3-8500 - CL7 - unbuffered - non-ECC

I easily installed them on my MacBook Pro but on the boot I receive errors like "CPU Panic" and other "Non-sense" error codes :)

Are these products not compatible with my MacBook Pro (although the specifications should work) or am I doing something wrong here?

Hi Andrei, in terms of compatibility everything seems to be fine. Besides the memory upgrade, did you also upgrade your software? What happens if you insert the old memory modules? Do you then get the same errors/errors at all?

I am using OS X Mountain Lion. Now I am using my old memory modules and everything is working fine.

Hi Andrei,

Thank you for your feedback and update. I am sorry to hear that you had to "downgrade" your memory again.

I did some further research on this issue and figured out that the new corsair memory might (yet) ultimately cause the issue. See discussion 1 and discussion 2 on that.

I recommend that you get you some crucial memory. Go to the crucial website and scan your system in order to know what your system can take. As far as I can see, crucial memory is one of the best memories and does not create issues when it is about a memory upgrade.

I hope that you can give back your corsair memory modules...

Steffen

The problem seems to be related to nvidia's DRAM Controller. Probably you have to change SPD timing to 8-8-8-20 to meet DDR3-1066G specification. To change timings and write them to SPD use Thaiphoon Burner utility.
