My Amana refrigerator/freezer has stopped cooling!
about six weeks ago I noticed my fridge wasn't cooling like it should so I unplugged it, vacuumed the coils under the doors, and around the fan at the bottom rear. I waited a couple of days and plugged it up. By the next morning it seemed to be working fine and did so for a couple of weeks. Then it stopped cooling completely. I have checked the coils behind the panel in the back of the freezer as well as the fans and the compressor seems to be working ( I think I can hear a light humming noise...but the lines are neither hot or cold) Please help!!
Desperate!!

Here an update... I was checking the Overload/relay with star capacitor with my multimeter and it seems to be fine. So just for giggles I plugged it up again to see if the compressor was vibratingand it was. So I walk around and check the coils inside the freezer and the are cold?? I Don't understand what is happening!!

Could just be a loose wire or one that needs re-soldering. Jiggle thinks around to see if you can find the possible break

I placed a thermometer in the freezer after plugging it up and in15 minutes it read 0 degrees! I think this means that it is not the compressor and more likely a defrost issue. Thanks mayer for your help! Maybe I should wait a day and try the Defrost timer and see if thar does the trick!

Frank, did you ever find the problem? My fridge has done the same thing. I'm trying to self fix before I can a repair guy. :(

I had a similar problem, found out the defrost didn't work so the fridge compartiment stopped cooling when there was too much ice buildup. Tried replacing the defrost timer but no improvement. What eventually fixed the problem is putting little balls of aluminum foil inside the molex connector of the defrost circuit. Turns out when it was too cold the contact broke because the metal was contracting inside them. Frustrating to diagnose as everytime I checked it was fine because of the warmth introduced when opening the door for long. Two years of swearing, now 8 without a problem.
