Spilled coffee on MacBook. Already replaced logic board but no power.

Hey,

So my wife was at college, coming up on a year ago, and she spilled coffee on her MacBook. She turned it off let it sit and dry but it never powered on again. She brought it to the apple store and they said the repairs were going to be as much as buying a new one. So she held on to it and waited for me to try and see if it could be fixed.

After reading up on what other people did, I try to see it it was just the keyboard that went bad and it didn't work. Now I've already replaced the logic board and it still won't seem to power on. Any idea what it might be? Also the logic-board still looked bad when I opened it up months later.

The logic board replacement is an advanced DIY project. Go over all your connectors again (many times problems stem from connectors that "appeared" or "seemed" good but were not square, snapped in, or cams locked- ribbon cables backwards or not fully inserted).

You might try jumpstarting the logic board -that would bypass the top case button & circuitry- failing that I would contact the vendor to verify the logic board you have was tested as fully functional.

That's awesome. I jumpstarted it an got it powered up. However I wasn't able to get the keyboard working. How hard would it be to replace the keyboard?

Jeff - The whole top case needs to be replaced as the keyboard is riveted to it

Good work! Yes keyboard seems the fault - go over those cables and connectors again. The keyboard is integrated with the top case.

Hi Jeff,

The keyboard on these MacBook white unibody models is an integrated part of the top case, and therefore the entire top case would need to be replaced. I'm in the same boat as you with a late 09 white unibody that I am working on with a stuck on shift key.

You can try lifting the stuck shift keycap and using some good quality Isopropyl alcohol with a Q-Tip bloating at the keys mechanics (don't wipe as the cotton will snag on it) you should be able to get it working again.

So I was able to find a dell keyboard at the local thrift store with a USB plug and its been working great. I just put the computer to sleep when were not using it and don't turn it off. Looks a little funky but works.
