Top of the screen not working, digitizer or motherboard?

Early last year my Ipad was dropped an it cracked the screen. I took it in to a local repair shop and they replaced the glass. At that time I purchased a warranty. Last week the Ipad was dropped again causing another cracked screen. When I picked it up I noticed the top half of the screen was not responding to touch. They told me the unresponsive touchscreen was due to some damage to the motherboard and there is nothing they can do. They did offer to replace they Ipad under the terms of the warranty for an additional $200.

I am by no means and expert, but I would think that this is a digitizer problem (which is covered under the warranty) not damage to the motherboard.

Thanks for any help.

James

It's hard to say, but it's one of the following:

1) Defective Digitizer - Area that's bad digitizer between the LCD and glass.

2) Board connector is bad - Since you said it dropped, it is possible that the connector damaged the board connection.

Was the digitizer cracked but functional in all spots before the repair? If so, then I would say 95% chance it's a bad digitizer replacement part or the board connector was damaged during replacement.

It had a very similar problem before the drop in another area of the screen. After talking to the guy at the repair shop the connection has been damaged. At this point I think I just have to live with the problem or pay for a replacement.

Chances are the top half of the digitizer cable came undone during the drop. You need to make sure both the top and bottom halves of the cable are in the port for the entire screen to work.
