no notification sound on text messages

I installed Go SMS Pro and Chomp SMS because I thought it would be cute to have the same emoticons that I was missing from my iPhone 4S.

I didn't like the way it looked, so I uninstalled and restarted my phone. Now, I don't get sound on any incoming texts, while everything else has sound. I went to General Settings and checked that everything is properly marked. I went into the message icon and checked the settings there as well—everything is properly marked. There is no mute icon in the top bar.

This is the weird part. When I go into General Settings > Sound > Volume > Notifications and change the tone, I hear it. When I change the settings through the message icon, I do not hear the tones..... help!

Most of the requirements for long-term use of the building original appearance. In determining to choose the type of stainless steel, the main consideration is the aesthetic standards required by the system to be used to clean corrosion and atmospheric location. However, a growing number of other applications just to seek completeness or permeable structure. For example, industrial building roof and side walls. In these applications, the owner of the construction costs may be more important than the aesthetic, the surface is not very clean may be.Stainless Steel Metal Products For Sale

Audible notification for Message+ on Galaxy S8 stopped working yesterday 6.17. All settings are correct and volume is up. Reboot did not help. Previous comment above (re: building?) is not coherent with this thread. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

My s7 notification text sound is not working help

I too, had the No Notification issue with my S6. Until I notice that in Settings>Notifications>Messages> Show Silently was some how turned ON. I believe it happened on my last UPDATE. Once I turned that OFF it work..Hope this helps.

I also have had this issue with my J3 for months and just took the time to figure it out. Like the above I had the notifications on in messages. I discovered through Facebook messenger my notifications were off. I clicked and it took me to phone setting for notifications. All were turned off, surely something I did at some point. Anyway I went through and changed all apps that I did want notifications from and that solved receiving sounds for FB,messenger, emails etc.

First, go to Softkey (Menu icon left of Home button) > Settings > More > Application Manger. Select Go SMS (or your default text app). Make sure "show notifications" is checked. This worked for me! I hope it helps.

None of the methods on this page worked for me - all of the suggested changes were already properly set. Turning them off and back on did precisely nothing too. But sometimes turning the settings back and forth won't take unless the confused device is restarted at a crucial part in the process, so here is what I did which finally fixed it for me:

1. Turn the notifications OFF in the app settings: (pull the notification area down > touch the gear icon to open Settings > More > Application Manager > All > Messaging > Show notifications (uncheck it)

2. Restart the phone

3. Send yourself the message and before it arrives, immediately exit the app by repeatedly hitting the "back" soft button (you need to do this fast – as soon as you hit Send). You should NOT receive the notification at this point.

4. Restart the phone

5. Send yourself another message and before it arrives, immediately exit the app again. You should still NOT receive the notification at this point, but by now you will have forced the phone to accept your own "notification off" setting (I love reverse psychology)

6. Restart the phone

7. Turn the notifications ON in the app settings: (notification area gear icon to open Settings > More > Application Manager > All > Messaging > Show notifications (check it)

8. Restart the phone again (I know, it's a pain in the keester, but it's all in the restarts)

9. Send yourself yet another message. Again, before it arrives, immediately exit the app. At this point I did receive the notification, but if you do not, restart the phone one last time and try texting yourself while doing the whole bailing-faster-than-a-hamster shimmy.

IMPORTANT: The native texting app won't notify you of incoming messages when you have the thread open (even with the notifications on – that's a default behavior as there is no point in notifying you about incoming messages while you're looking at them). That is why you need to exit the thread BEFORE the text arrives by hitting "back" (home button might not be enough to do the trick). So if you are still not receiving notifications, make sure it's not a simple case of staring at your own thread while receiving your own texts.

YES!!! This finally did it - none of the other posts here worked until I tried this. Judging by some other folks' experience, this should be a pinned answer at the very top of this thread

None of the other methods worked. Thank you for posting this

This is what did it. I tried other suggestions in this thread, but this one was it

Referring to your comment saying The native texting app won't notify you of incoming messages when you have the thread open (even with the notifications on – that's a default behavior as there is no point in notifying you about incoming messages while you're looking at them), do you know if it is possible to change this? Because it used to work on the Samsung Galaxy S3 mini I had and in fact, you sometimes don't look at your phone so it is a problem if there is no sound in this case

@didoodam (CASSETT) - I'm not entirely sure if there is a way to change that - on my phone that's just how text app works. However, I myself got into a good habit of simply hitting the home button after I am done - that's all it took for my S4 to realize the app is no longer in focus and start alerting me again (also, a good battery-saving strategy overall, since some apps continue doing stuff when left in focus).

I personally hate it when I ask a question on a forum, and someone gives me a "you-don't-wanna-do-that, do-this-instead" answer... yet here I am doing the same to you. =(

My apologies for that. Unfortunately that is the best answer I can give you since I don't know of a trick that forces the texting app to notify you of incoming texts while the receiving thread is open

Sorry for a tardy reply, by the way. And if you liked the tip on how to fix the initial problem, pls do upvote it. It helps it stick to the top so more peeps can benefit from it rather than have to go through the whole thread =)

HANGOUTS settings will override SMS Messaging settings. My daughters new (Verizon) Galaxy S4 Mini would only count one incoming SMS text after a reboot on the Home screen, while 2+ unread text messages were waiting within the SMS app.

Go into Hangouts> Settings and deselect the checkbox that redirects SMS messages to Hangouts. Be sure to go into the SMS>Settings and enable Notifications. This solved the problem for us.

Best of luck:)

Hold volume button, press gear icon on right side of volume slider that appears on screen and 4 different area volumes will appear..more than likely your system volume (the bottom option) is turned down all the way, just adjust

Is it all text notifications or just SMS Pro and Chomp SMS? (Guessing it's stock SMS app since you uninstalled SMS Pro and Chomp SMS.)

Go to the Stock SMS App > Softkey (Menu icon left of Home button) > Settings:

Block Image

See if Notifications is checked. If so, I suggest tapping the Softkey (Menu icon left of Home button) inside the Settings menu, then tapping on Restore Default Settings. If that helps or does, please let me know!

Yay!! I was going insane trying to figure this out. Especially when all other notifications sounds worked. It was just for my texts with either Go SMS Pro or the basic default text. I followed the above directions and EUREKA!!! After a week of trying everything in my power, it now works. So thanks.

Duh, Missed this one too. I feel like txbritgal right now.

Thank you AMJAD.

For anyone having problem with their notification (like no sounds or message alert tone not working) after installing GO sms pro, here's what i did. hope it works on your phone.

1. Go to your original 'messaging', uncheck the "notification" in its setting..

2. Go to your Go sms pro, go to settings and look for advanced setting. uncheck "PRIORITY MESSAGING".

I had this problem when I first got my S4 as new. I solved it by taking out the battery, leaving the phone for 10 minutes or so, re-inserting the battery and, when I switched the phone back on, the SMS tone was working

The only solution I've found that worked for me is factory reset, but that deletes all your files, so do a backup beforehand

Michelle, a forced stop of Hangouts (or any app) is only good until you reboot, which will auto-restart the app. I recommend that you change the Settings in the Hangouts app to prevent your SMS texts from being redirected to Hangouts. I'm not a Pro, but it's what I experienced.

Unchecking SMS in Hangouts worked for me. Weird that Hangouts showed Notification on with sound, but still didn't make any sound when text came in. Maybe it has to be up and running in the foreground before it will sound off.

I am sorry if this is a year too late. I had the same problem. I just went into settings, from settings go to the (my device) tab then go to (sound) then scroll down to messages. When you click messages there should be a box that says notifications. It should be checked. If it isn't then this is your problem

Hi, my problem was that i did not received notifications for ChompSMS after i had to remove and again install the chompSMS App! for problem solving, I set the default app as SMS tool and then i did received notification. Back to ChompSMS as default App and checked the notifications setting : the notifications were enabled. Strange, still no notifications in Chomp SMS !!!!! Finaly it seemed like i also had to check the phone configuration : 'settings/manage Apps/chomp SMS' the checkbox 'show notifications' was not enabled. Enabled this setting and all was OK again.
