5 beeps with a black screen
Mine is a Dell inspiron and it's doing 5 beeps with a black screen... can you help me with this one?

kasie, it will help if you give us the exact model of your Dell. The POST diagnostic beeps for most Dell laptops :
One= Possible system board failure —BIOS ROM checksum failure
Two= No RAM detected NOTE: If you installed or replaced the memory module, ensure that the memory module is seated properly.
Three= Possible system board failure — Chipset error
Four= RAM read/write failure
Five= Real Time Clock failure
Six= Video card or chip failure
Seven= Processor failure
Eight= Display failure
So, there could be a problem either with the CMOS battery or the motherboard. Hope this helps, good luck.

This can either be a Ram problem or some other hardware malfunction. All you need to do is take your Ram modules apart one by one and then try plug in them back one by one by powering on your PC each time. In this way you will be able to confirm that whether its the ram or any other built in hardware problem. Also check if your motherboard`s backup battery is working fine.

Seems that swapping RAM worked for my Dell Inspiron 5520. Thanks!
He said 5 beeps. That means cmos, not RAM!!!
I was stuck with those 5 (five, not three, not four, I swear five) beeps. Replaced CMOS battery twice, didn't work. Tested batteries with a multimeter, voltage was OK. So? With the same CMOS battery installed, I swapped the memory banks and...magical, the inspiron POSTed correctly. Strange, but if you read what david chase wrote up, this can be either a CMOS or a RAM problem. In my case, the RAM was the culprit.
The 5 Beeps is also RAM. Mine happened after I installed a new fan when this happened to me. I was about to give up when I saw this post. Re-seating the RAM got rid of the 5 beeps and everything is now working great.
It gave me 5 beeps at first, so I removed the CMOS twice. The beeps continued until I removed the ram then placed it back but I still don't have any display.

hullo i have a dell laptop with intel i core 3 prcocessor, power enters but it doesn't light on screen and i account 5 beeps in speakers and continues beeping until i put off the power whats the solution
