Screen not fixed into the surrounding bezel

When opening my phone to replace earpiece, the glass pulled away from the 'bezel' or frame that it is mounted in. I can see pieces of glue. The attached bracket (LCD Frame?) remained clipped into the rear case. Once I realized that this was not right (opened to about 20 deg angle), I pushed the glass back into the bezel and worked harder to open the phone "correctly".

My question is: now that the glass is not totally secure in it's mounting 'bezel' what is the correct type of glue to be used to make sure the glass does not pop out in the future.

Hello this is a common issue when using a suction cup happened til me once and never used a suction cup again..

What I would use is a bit of gorilla glue super strong so you won't experiance this again if you even need to open phone again

Thanks for the reply. I ended up using 2 sided tape to reassemble as I had this readily available, but not super convinced this is as solid as I would like it to be. May try your suggestion so I feel a little more comfortable with the repair. If you don't mind offering, I am curious how you go about opening the phone without a suction cup (and not scraping frame badly by trying to pry something in there)? Much thanks.

Cammy referred to optical clear adhesive. I don't think Gorilla Glue meets that specification. Thus if you are not very careful, when you push the glass on it may spread past the attachment area and onto the display area.

Personally, with only a few months remaining on my contract, I'm just going to be careful and then upgrade the phone.

The iPhone 5 has clips in the top that need to be clipped in before "pushing" the frame back into the bezel. If the glass is moving away it may well need the optical clear adhesive replacing. This will require heating the phone to separate the adhesive and apply the adhesive. You will need to be wary of air bubbles and it's recommended to cure under a UV light.

Just to be clear, the glass pulled away while using the suction cup during the opening of the iPhone. My opinion is that the adhesive failed.

OK, so are you suggesting removing the entire glass from the bezel? This would be with the 'iOpener'? And then clean the rest of the adhesive off? With what? Then is the optical clear adhesive for sale at ifixit? And it would be applied and then the iOpener used to soften the adhesive when applied?

I just experienced the same issue as jharrison noted above with my iPhone 5, as the suction cup pulled the "glass screen" off the bezel due to the original adhesive (or streak of glue) letting go. Answer above by Clammy not clear to me. I realize you can purchase a whole new "Display Assembly", but my glass is perfect other than its not fully attached to the bezel. Would like to know if some type of glue or tape would stick it back to bezel for now?

I use the iSeasmo tool to open the 5, 5c, and 5s, never had an issue with it scraping the paint on the underside. If you slide just the tip between the glass and the midframe. Just to the left of the home button and gently pry up. Even with this method I still get some separation of the bezel from the glass, but gently slide the iSeasmo (or similar pry tool) along the sides underneath the bezel and it pops up as you want. I find that 2mm double sided tape works "OK" to reaffirm the bezel to the glass, but found this article by googling a better alternative.

Actually, this problem seems to have happened to my iPhone 5 without even opening it. And it has become rather annoying. It was rather difficult to open the iPhone safely with the glass not affixed to the bezel (it is loose and the top and sides, but luckily still firmly attached at the home button). But now that I have the screen off and see the problem, I am trying to figure the best way to fix this???

Hi, I recently had this problem and I noticed that the clips on the side of the phone were functional. So, I looked inside the phone and noticed that the battery was kinda like puffed out. I popped a the plastic with a needle so that there wasn't access air in the battery. This solved the problem and I could close the phone correctly.

WOAH! Nick.. I don't know if you're serious, and I'm sure this post is a million years old, but that was extremely dangerous! Li Ion batteries can swell sometimes and need to be replaced. puncturing them can be very very hazardous to your health (check youtube!)

I have had this issue many times, and found this article after searching for an alternative. Mainly, I am concerned with removing and re-placing the plastic camera and proximity sensors. I typically use super glue of any brand, but this is not a good alternative because one wrong move and you have the glue smeared onto the clear camera lookout, or you don't position the bracket exactly where it needs to be and have to chisel it back off.

I'm thinking of trying some type of contact cement?? I have the the LOCA glue for the LCD repairs but it takes too long to cure for little fixes like this.

I'm hoping someone out there has a definitive answer.
