MacBook Pro won't boot past grey screen with apple logo

I had recently spilled some liquid in my Mac and had changed the logic board. My Mac Pro is a mid 2009 13" inch, 2.26 ghz intel core 2 duo processor. I replaced the logic board with a 2010 logic board, 2.68 ghz intel core 2 duo processor. After this change, when turned on the lop top it would go to the grey screen with the apple logo and the gear ball would spin for a couple seconds and stop. It stays there for hours until I force shut it down. I booted into safe mode and it runs and when restart into normal mode there is the same problem. Is there a fix for this that will get my computer up and running?

Yes - from safe mode make a new user account and set that as the log in account. You have some corrupt files on your old main user account.

No, i said put them back one at a time (you'd already removed all and found your machine would boot) Your problem is in one (or more) of the following:

  • an extension safe boot loads only required kernel extensions (some of the items in /System/Library/Extensions). You can navigate to that library after a safe boot and look at what is left in there The "disabled extensions are potentially one of your problems".
  • Mac OS X v10.5.6 or later: A Safe Boot deletes the dynamic loader shared cache at (/var/db/dyld/). A cache with issues may cause a blue screen on startup, particularly after a Software Update. Restarting normally recreates this cache.
  • A fonts other than those in /System/Library/Fonts (Mac OS X v10.4 or later). One of your peripherals may have installed a corrupt font.
  • A font cache normally stored in /Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS/(uid)/ , where (uid) is a user ID number such as 501 (Mac OS X v10.4 or later). One of your peripherals may have created a login item that is hanging
  • A startup item or login items (Mac OS X v10.4 or later).

I would verify your disk, and repair permissions while in safe mode. I suspect you have a liquid damaged HD.

I would also run Apple Hardware Test to see what problems it finds.

This failing, try reinstalling the system, your original system installation disk may not work, (but probably will). If not get a retail version of 10.6.3 (10D2125)) or better.

ok, i tried this, created new account and this still problem persist. i tried booting from the original osx cd and it still freeze, tried booting from the usb and it freez at the apple screen .it only seem to work in safe mode..

I decided to disconnect all the devices off the logic board. Keyboard, track pad, cd drive and airport device. When doing this the MacBook Pro boots up normaly

Then you have a problem with a peripheral extension... or hardware. Plug them back in one at time & reboot until you identify the problem - then check for software/firmware updates for that peripheral.

i did as you said, i removed the peripherals one at a time and it still won't boot normally. the machine only works in safe mode now.
