iPhone 4S Doesn't Recognise any SIM card

I have a 4S and its a strange issue, it doesn't recognise any SIM card 99% of the time. By this i mean tonight i have removed the board and using compressed air and pure alcohol cleaning solution to try and clean the SIM area and it worked!, right up until i removed the SIM card to try another. Before i did this i had nothing recognised.

I don't know if i should try a different SIM reader, my abilities don't stretch that far so will have to pay. I'm more concerned it could be an issue on the board as the SIM reader looks perfectly fine.

i just bought an iphone 6 off of ebay and it wont scan my sim card...or any sim card actually. it doesnt come with the sim card tray so i borrowed one but it doesnt seem to fix the problem. Do i need to get the scanner fixed?

I would suggest to clean the sim card area where the pins make contact with the sim card itself. However, you said you already did.

Other then that, check to see that the golden prongs are all lifted and at the same level. Maybe one of them is bent in too much and is causing bad contact with the sim.

Last thing to try is to reset the network settings.

SOLVING THIS PROBLEM:

Go to Settings => General Settings => Reset => Reset Network Settings

It is a known issue when you unplug the battery.

I faced the same problem. This solution worked for me but only after setting the correct date and time. If you can't set the date and time manually, try connecting the phone to a wifi network so it takes date and time via network

We managed to fix it by turning on airplane mode, re-setting the time manually and then turning the airplane mode off again. This was related to unplugging the battery...

Try a spacer on top of the sim to push it down on to the contacts. Some times (If you remove and install a lot) the contacts can not reach up to touch the Sim.

It's probably an issue with the logic board, so you need to replace it, unless you want to try replacing the sim reader yourself, which is very hard.

What i thought, No my abilities aren't up to that so i will probably send it away for replacement. For what the 4S cost me it will probably still be worth it and while thats gone i can fix the power button which is stiff.

Changed my logic or mother board on an iphone4...then i restored it but after it starts up and you starting having to follow steps to activate phone it just says searching after a few steps it tries reading the sim card then says cannot find sim...why is that

hello as i tried to set up my iphone 4s i only bypassed the languegeset up and country but when i connected to itune, they requested for a sim card yet it was well placed. i cannot access any other information on the iphone. i had already updated every thing else so how can i fix the sim isue?

Do a hard reset by pressing the top button and the home button simultaneously until the screen goes dark and the Apple logo appears. Then, release the buttons.

the problem in my case and perhaps many is that the sim tray is badly designed it’s too deep between the sim and connectors so it’s not flush on the connection side, that minute gap stops it being read, the sim has a spacer around it so when its partly inserted gently push down so it drops, you’ll hear a click it’s still in the spacer but with a better connection, it worked then stopped so i opened it half way and pushed again, it’s now fully connected, this is an old question but still needed an answer for my old phone i’d given up on….
