Why isn't my Gameboy Advance SP working?

Whenever I try to turn it on, the power light and the display turn on, but then go they out right away. Whenever I try to charge it, the charge light stays on for about a second, and then goes out.

I found out that if you unplug and plug in the charger about 8 times, then the charge light stays on, but that doesn't seem to help. It's probably just a glitch.

I think this is happening because the Gameboy thinks that its battery is full, but it might be dead. I'm not sure if the problem is the AC adapter or the Gameboy itself.

Should I buy a replecment battery, an AC adapter, or a completely new Gameboy?

Alex Kovatchev, I'd start with the easier and cheaper stuff first. Replace the battery. Use a multimeter and check the output of the adapter. See what voltage you get. Check the power plug for any debris, corrosion etc. Clean it with some isopropyl alcohol and a few puffs of compressed air. Hope this helps, good luck.

I bought a new battery, and it works. But it still doesn't charge! Do I need a new AC adapter? :(

Have you checked the charger with a multimeter to see if it works? I'd start with that.

I just did, and I'm getting power from the adapter. Is there any external battery charger for this?

I mean, is there any way to charge the battery with a different device?

Not that I am aware off, but that does not mean there isn't. You could do one more thing, check the fuses on the logic board. I believe one (F2) is for the charging circuit.
