How do I disassemble a Kodak Moviedeck 475?

I have a Kodak Moviedeck 475 8mm and Super 8mm film projector. It no longer feeds film. I have found a service manual of sorts here: http://www.micro-tools.net/pdf/kodak/m-s....

However, I'm not able to get past step 2 (in the "Normal Repairs in the Kodak Moviedeck Projectors" section), which references a spring latch in the supply spindle. I cannot see a spring or any latch, and I've tried feeling around with a paper clip and have had no luck getting the spindle to come off. I went ahead and removed the screws, but the spidle is still preventing me from taking the cover off.
