16 Hp Kohler engine. Won't Start, no fire. Why?

Have a 16 Hp Kohler engine. Model CV16S - 43519.

Will not start. Has no fire at spark plug wire. Is full of electronics. Looking for Site or Help in how to test the Engine Rectifier, Stator, Engine Module and Digital Module.

The engine spins freely with starter, but will not start at all. Acts like it may start when you let up on the key, but doesn't start.

All these parts are expensive to replace. I'm looking for any help to be able to test and fix without replacing all the parts on the mower to get it running.

Thank you and have a wonderful day.'''

See if you can get the service manual from http://www.kohlerengines.com/manuals/lan... here. The model number you posted does not yield any return.

Thank you for the response. I'm like you, I can't find the manual for this model on that site.

Do you know if I can replace the ignitor module with a standard one, and do away with the digital module? Do you know of any way to test the digital module or if I can bypass this somehow? It seems that everywhere I look, I run into road blocks and find no information for this motor, except for the Craftsman site (which is no help).

hello my kohler engine start when it going on load one coil dont work.and it not bare load.i have change 3 coil but problem is same after 15 mint one coil dont work

Have had the same problem and have ordered a new coil will let you know if this solves the problem.

Look under kholar command for parts they put our kholar pro cv16s under those

Cv16s is in with the command model's of kholar

Any part you need you'll find under kholar command that's what pops up for me it's like they don't have kholar pro cv16s replacement parts.

Leave it with me an I'll get it running in four hours or less.

Read the spark plug first to try to see what has been going on. A plug in normal condition has a thin layer of light-brown deposits on it. If you see a thick layer of black carbon deposits, it's a sign that the carburetor mixture is too rich -- your engine may even be smoking. Electrodes that have been worn thin are a sign of overheating, often caused by too much ethanol in the gas. If your plug has wet, oily deposits, it's time to take the mower in for servicing, because oil is leaking into the combustion chamber where it shouldn't be.

Other Engine Problems

If your spark plug appears to have normal wear -- or if you've just installed a new one -- and the engine doesn't fire, you can check the plug by replacing the spark plug wire with a tester and pulling the starting rope. If you don't see a spark on the tester, there may be a problem with the ignition coil of the flywheel to which it's attached. The ignition coil doesn't frequently develop problems, but the connection between the flywheel and coil or between the starting pulley and flywheel can wear out, and the coil may not be turning. Replacing the worn part isn't difficult, but you may need a pro to properly disassemble the engine.

Thank you. have Good day

Dude, he says he has no spark coming thru the spark plug wire. So it won't matter if he has a brand new plug or an old model A plug. And fuel mix won't make a difference either.

You need all the right tools for taking apart the motor without the tools you'll be paying a pro to do a easy job you can do your self with the right tools in hand.

And for those kholar pro engine cv16s they have most the parts and book as kholar command not kholar pro cv16s like i have you won't find crap for kholar pro cv16s it's all under kholar command cv15s

U looking for replacement parts look up craftsman kholar command if you have a cv16s like mine

Mine needs replacement parts I'm unable to find new ones only used parts and used maybe cracked I need a air duct for the cv16s kholar

Luckily i found the parts names in with cv15s kholar command user manual book for my cv16s craftsman kholar pro who knew that new stuff would be in a old book

Some parts from the command model doesn't line up on the pro cv16s model of mower is my problem

My engine doesn't say kholar command it says kholar pro on the side it says cv16s I'll just have to make some parts for it i guess.

Shine up the engine's flywheel but not to hard or you'll ruin the magnets crimp the end of the spark plug wire tighter cut off some of the black rubber around the plug wire my old problems your having now do all that and make sure its got a tight fit

If nothing still you then need to check your battery connections and then the right gap of your plug still nothing working check your plug wire under the housing cover any rust will stop a spark so check it all out good your rectifier and $@$* is manly for the headlights so that's nothing to look into and it's for sending charge back to the battery but doesn't matter at this time you would like it to run -lights and that stuff

I'd have it popping in four hours if I had your mower with no testers none of the pro stuff they might use I'd get running for you for free.

I have a Sears command 16 horsepower lawn tractor 46-inch cut 6 speed. Model c 16s type ps4309.

On the more frame -- serial number.

917.258580. serial number. 012797c002643. Have the initial manual.

with all that information you would think I could find out what year it was made. I found a site where I could check the year made and it isn't even listed. What's up ?

if you or anybody else need the actual part number for this type of mower with a Kohler engine let me know and I'll give you the part number.

Yours is probably around a 1996 Kohler command cv16s

I have an old Scotts tractor with a Kohler cv16s command engine. A label on the frame tells the year it was manufactured. I'm having very similar problems to those discussed above. It will occasionally start and when it does, it runs great. Then when I turn it off and attempt to restart it, I get no fire from the plug wire. It also has a spark advance module, but my thoughts are that I should see some spark since the plug wire is routed directly from the coil. Does anyone know if that is a correct assumption or does the S.A.M. completely control the spark from the coil?

just take a cc card and that’s the gap

There is no credit card gap on the coil. It is a set gap of about 1/4" when you screw the coil down.
