Upgrading from the core duo processor

I have a macbook pro late 2008 unibody model. I was wondering if its possible to upgrade the processor? I know some of the early core i processors used the same sockets as the Duos, I just don't know if the processors are soldered onto the board of the laptop or if the heatsink could handle it or not. Is this a viable upgrade path? I mean I love my machine, but its starting to slow down due to age and I've added memory and a SSD to speed it up but still could use more speed.

Sorry, the CPU is not replaceable in any of the MacBook or MacBook Pro series laptops. I think you are thinking of the iMac series desktops which do have replaceable CPU's.

I haven't really had these apart far enough to know for sure. All I know is that on most machines (mac or other wise, laptops or not) its possible to remove the processor from the board without physically damaging either. So I figured it might be possible to do that here.

Here's an image of your logic board: MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Late '08 here you can see the BGA chips (3) that make up the CPU, GPU and the controller logic. These chips are soldered to the logic board and can't be replaced like desktop chip'ed systems which have sockets. Besides, you could only replace the chip with the exact same one.
