How to fix dropped in the Toilet iPhone! (check the images)

Hi

I dropped my phone into the toilet and after one month I disassembled the device and using a multimeter tried to check which component is not working. I might be new to these stuff, but when the battery is connected the current should flow into the wires and connectors but I was getting 0.648 mA and dropped to 0.

I have tried another crazy thing, I thought the battery might be dead so I removed it and I connected the phone "without the battery" to a charger (I used a battery charger and not a wall charger to avoid any disaster) and looked for the current in different components of the device and I've got the same result.

So I reassembled the device and voila it turned on (it wasn't working at all) but as you can see in the pictures, nothing was happening.

The question is, what part|s of the device I should change so it will start working again?

Thanks in advance

Seeing as the device was not disassembled for a month, corrosion most likely set in. It is hard to pin down a certain component that needs to be changed without looking at the device.

I am assuming that this phone will need to be professionally treated for water damage. The corrosion is most likely shorting out your logic board somewhere.

Thanks for your replays

I have the fluke 289 multimeter to test for current flow. The thing is I tried to check whether the current is moving in the connectors or not, but the problem is I get 0.67 mA and then drops to 0. I don't know whats going on, whether it's normal or not, or I don't know how to use the multimeter.

Is there any tutorials or any hints on how to check that?

Thanks a lot

From your images, it appears that you have some water damage to the LCD. Before you have any need for your multimeter, clean your phone and check for corrosion. Also, why would you check the mA? Right now you are concerned with the voltages.....Clean your phone, change the battery.

Mohammad, rice is about the equivalent of doing nothing. It will not prevent corrosion and will not fix your phone. What it does is provide you with a false sense of doing something. Most corroded phones are the ones that where placed in rice. So I suggest that the very first thing you want to do is to not try to restart the phone. This may further damage your phone. You also do not want to try to charge it any further. The next thing to do is to clean it. Disassemble your phone using these guides. Once it is disassembled, you do need to clean it properly. You will need high grade isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush. Use this guide to see how to clean it. Even so it was written for a 3G all the points are still pertinent to your phone. While you are cleaning it, check for any broken, missing or burned looking components. When it is properly cleaned, replace the battery. All these steps are to avoid delayed failure caused by corrosion. Once all this is done, reassemble your phone and reevaluate.Water damage is the hardest to diagnose and the toughest to repair since virtually any part may have failed. Hope this helps, good luck.

As Brian says,

letting it sit for a month was a big mistake. Even a "water damage treatment" will be unlikely to fix it at this point. If it got soaked more components can/will go out then you can even fix. Next time as soon as it drops in, pull out put in a zip lock bag of rice for 2 or 3 days, then you sometimes can be saved. I would chalk this up to being a loss cause... maybe invest in a lifeproof or other waterproof case... or a phone that can be dropped in the water like a Galaxy s5.

my 2 cents, good luck.
