Backlight will not stay on after initial boot

I'm working on an iPad mini retina 16gb. Originally I was just performing a screen replacement. When I went to test it before sealing, the screen booted with the apple logo and then the backlight turned off. I don't think it can be a backlight issue since it works at the initial boot. Any ideas?
