Why is my iPhone keeps on restating?

Hi,

I have an iPhone 5. Last week I was texting with my phone, and the screen started to shut off slowly, and finally restarts. At first I thought it was just a crash, but the next day, same thing happened (this time it restarts right away). Since then, the iPhone keeps on restarting every 2-3 minutes. What I did was to let it shut down for 10-15 minutes, then start it up. This way, the iPhone could stay on slightly longer. For 1 hour or sometimes 3-4 hours. Then I hadto shut it down again for another 10-15 minutes. After a week of doing this constantly, I finally decided to try to restore it rigt from the phone (Reset to fatory settings). Unfortunately, while it was restoring, the iPhone keeps on restarting again. As of right now, the iPhone is stuck on this condition.

I tried to do DFU Mode, but never actually made it. Everytime I do the DFU Mode steps, the phone just keepns on going back to the restore bar with the apple logo.

I also tried to hold home button and plug it in to my computer. But thecable + iTunes logo didnt show up on the screen, instead, the restore bar + apple logo appeared.

Could this be a battery issue? Or could it be something else?

PS: i've never dropped my iPhone. But I have jailbroke it, which I'm not sure if it could make this kind of issue.

Update: I can finally RESTORE my iPhone. It's not stuck in the Restore Bar anymore, but it still keep on restarting on its own. The same thing happens, restart every 2-3 minutes. Now I'm pretty sure it's a hardware problem, since the device is no longer jailbroken.

reading your question, i started thinking "sounds like a jailbroken phone'

They tend to do that. Usually you need to get rid of one of your tweaks and it will stop.

It sounds like now you have a failed restore. You need to put your phone in DFU mode. This is different than recovery mode. In recovery mode (like you've described) you can see the connect to itunes logo. In true Device Firmware Upgrade mode, your screen is black. This is a deeper reset that will allow the phone to overwrite the baseband firmware. This may help you.

It is also possible that you may have some hardware defect---but let's rule out the other stuff first.

Hi Jessa,

Thanks for responding to my question.

As I mentioned on my first post, I did try DFU mode. . I just tried it again to make sure. The screen was black. When I plug it in to my computer, the iphone starts with an Apple Logo, and continue to the Restore Bar. But then again, it restarts within 1-2 minutes. Right before it restarted, I could see that iTunes detected the iPhone with a welcome screen for a new phone. Not sure if it helps to solve the issue though. :/

If it was really the hardware, what do you think could be the defected part? I did buy a battery replacement for it, waiting for 2-3 days for it to arrive on the island that I'm leaving. (I live on an island, so it's hard for me to bring it to any AASP. This is also why I'm trying to solve/fix the problem myself)

Woops, I can finally do the DFU mode now. I plugged it in to my computer, the iphone turns on, but I did a force shut down or something with holding both power and home button. Usually, it restarts right away, but there's a 2-3 seconds gap, and I used it to do the DFU mode. Finally, my phone is on the black screen right now, and iTunes is downloading the .ipsw.. Will post here later wether the restore works or not. Hopefully it works :D

Thanks Jessa!

So, my phone is running pretty okay now. Restarts every 1-2 minutes for 4-5 times and after that, it was doing fine for a day. When I woke up, tried to played with it again, then it repeats the same thing. Restarts every 1-2 minutes for 4-5 times, now it is running fine.

One thing I found out though, for once, right before it restarts, the screen shows blue stripes for a second, then shut down and restart. Again, when I googled it, some people actually said that it was a battery issue. Is this true? If it is, then I'll definitely buy a replacement for it.

Thanks :^)
