Screen Stays Blank but iPad Speaker Makes Sound When Connected to PC

I got a broken ipad with a shattered digitizer, disconnected wifi antenna, and missing home button. I tested it out before opening it up and it work (there was no problem with the display or anything other than the digitizer). After fixing all the parts, (except for the home button) I reattached everything to make sure it was working so far. Couldn't get any picture on the screen, but the speaker in the ipad made a sound when I plugged it into my computer (and it showed up normally and would let me copy pictures off and stuff). Tried unplugging and re-plugging the digitizer and screen several times, but nothing has changed. I was really careful when taking it apart and am 99% sure that I didn't break the screen. Any thoughts?

Also, I am trying to figure out how to put the new home button on. I have the little switchboard and the actual plastic button itself, but I don't understand what it is supposed to come into contact with to work. Does anyone know of a picture/diagram that explains it?

First, regarding the home button: on the logic board (right beneath where the Home Button sits), you can see 2 pins. The home button is no more than a "switch" that connects those two pins when you press it. You can obtain the same result by shorting the two pins (touching them together, but be *very very very careful* since you can pry them of the board or break them, or cause a short on the board), or by shorting the left pin to the metal frame.

And this guide will show you how to replace the missing Home Button.

Second, regarding the blank display:

A- Since your iPad is still disassembled (otherwise start with B), rule out that:

1/ Display cable is not damaged at the tip;

2/ Display connector on the board does not have missing/broken pins;

3/ That the retaining flap is not broken or missing, and that when you insert the cable in the connector, you are flipping it correctly to lock the cable in place;

B- Then hard-reboot your iPad by pressing & holding Home Button + Power Button together for ~12 seconds. If the iPad doesn't restart then, click the Power Button once to make it start. This should fix it unless:

B-1/ you have a "backlight problem" meaning that you've blown a "fuse" or burnt a filter during assembly; in which case your iPad's logic board will need repair by a specialized repair-technician able to do micro-soldering;

B-2/ You pulled on and damaged the display cable during your first repair attempt. In which case you will need a new display. A good way to tell is to hook another "known to work" display and see if it will display an image.
