Odd behavior powering on after spill. I/O board?

So, like a lot of people apparently, I spilled a glass of water on my MacBook Air. I turned it off immediately before it could short circuit. Since then I've cleaned the internals and let it dry. I can find only one small sign of corrosion, on the left I/O board, not far from the I/O board cable that connects it to the logic board.

The computer behaves as follows. It will not turn on when the power button is pressed on battery, though I believe the battery may be discharged. The MagSafe cable does not illuminate, and I cannot charge the battery with it. When I disconnect the battery, the cable does not light either.

However, when the battery is disconnected and the charging cable is connected with the internals exposed, the cooling fan can be seen intermittently turning on and stopping. When the power button is pressed in this circumstance, the startup chime sounds and the apple logo appears dim on screen, as during the first few seconds of startup. However, the computer turns off after a few seconds.

Additionally, when I took the computer to the Apple Store (figured I'd give it a shot, since there is only the barest hint of corrosion), and they plugged it into their cable, the cable did light for a minute or so before going out. No attempts were made to turn on the machine during that time.

Does this behavior in combination with slight corrosion there sound like a dying I/O board as opposed to a dying logic board? Obviously that would be a much less stressful replacement, but I'm also not going to kid myself into a false sense of ease.

Thanks in advance for your help!

EDIT: I also, upon further inspection, see what looks like charred/blackened/damaged pins on the I/O board-Logic board flex cable at the connection to the I/O board. There is also similar damage on the corresponding pins on the I/O board, and that is indeed a point where the corrosion exists.

Did you take out the board and inspect carefully? Hard to tell if it is infect the io board. To me it sounds more like power IC which is near the fan but underneath the keyboard

So I received the replacement I/O board and cable today, and I installed them. The machine is/was behaving irregularly. It would boot up, magic, brought back to life, and then after a minute or so turn back off. The MagSafe light would flash green then orange, and stay orange unless the power button was pushed, in which case it would briefly flash green again.

Right now the machine is on and appears normal. I've got a solid 10 minutes up, compared to barely getting past the login screen before. I'm trying to get a new Time Machine backup completed before/in case it cops out on me again.

Any idea what could be the problem if it turns on and works normally after a new board, but was still having weird startup/power off issues? (Praying they're resolved right now, but I'm not too hopeful.)

Mind the alternating get MagSafe color, and the fact it wouldn't boot at all before the board and cable replacement.

Also yes, I did take out the logic board and inspect it. I didn't see any definite corrosion. There was one small speck that may have been, but I wasn't sure. Either way, I cleaned the board carefully with 99% isopropyl too.

Should I upload a picture of the location that may have had corrosion?

I forgot to mention that I have totally scrubbed the board twice with 100% isopropyl too and even

Pulled off the heat shield and so I could really get in there.. I've tested the SSD in another Macbook air 2012 like this one and it works fine so it has to be a logic board issue but I just can't see any corrosion anywhere.. This is a tough one.. Looked like coffee or wine spill.. Would you recommend I try warm distilled water as well as isopropyl? I'm a novice but so far has a good success rate with water spills but this one is doing my head in.. Thanks in advance.

I think you need to do some MacBook board level repair troubleshooting. Look online for Louis Rossmann's YouTube channel, lots of great content there if you aren't a delicate flower.
