Replaced Optical Drive for SSD / MacBook not turning on anymore

Hey guys,

Went through the iFixit dual hard drive guide. Right off the bat I'll say there was a weird popping noise the first time I touch the battery connector and I'm not sure where it came from. But I disregarded and went through with the replacement (I know I should have tested the computer at this point). Anyway, went through the guide and now the computer is not turning on. Before going back and doing the whole thing over, just to see if I did anything wrong, is there any point where things more likely went awry? Does the MBP not work if a certain connector is not in all the way?

BTW, I tried my brother's MBP battery in mine and it didn't work but his computer works just fine.

I'm using a 2012 Unibody MBP.

"Does the MBP not work if a certain connector is not in all the way?" You didn't really ask this did you?

Well geez I'm just throwing anything out there out of frustration. I know all the connectors are in, I've gone back several times through the guide.

Why is it a few guides suggested not unplugging the battery during the repair? The loud pop I heard occurred when I unplugged the battery connector, following the ifixit guide, and for all I know that's what fried the board.

Try disconnecting the optical drive from the logic board to eliminate it as a suspect. Did you use a metal object to unplug the battery? Was the pop sound like a mechanical or electrical sound? Is the battery swollen?

I did use a metal spudger. At work but I'll report back once I try unplugging the new SSD

Also, it did sound electrical.. Meaning, it sounded like it had a physical (not digital) basis. I'm guessing it was a bad idea to use a metal tool?

I'm honestly thinking it was maybe some plastic on the inside moving abruptly. I'm skeptical that I fried the motherboard, considering I've both built a PC on the same area and have worked on several iPhones there. Not sure what to think.. Tried putting the optical drive back and the computer didn't work. Baffled by the whole thing. Have an appointment with Apple on Monday so maybe they can try out a new logic board. Here's hoping it's not more than $400.
