Replaced Power/Vol button. iPad won't sleep/wake.

Okay, first off, I am no rookie when it comes to repairing things. This isn't my first tablet, however this is my first time encountering this issue.

I just recently repaired this iPad 2 Digitizer. The Power/Vol button did rip during the process of removing the Digitizer.. (partially because the glass that was shattered hard partly ripped it already) So no worries, I ordered a replacement Power/Vol flex to replace it. Alas! I have been in a similar situation before and ordered 2! Just in case one doesn't work. So I get the parts in, remove the ripped cable and slide the connector in and BAM! button doesn't work. No worries, I lifted the motherboard and disconnected the battery, screwed the mobo back in, held down the power button, annnnnd the Apple logo pops up and it proceeds to power on. iPad turns on digitizer is functional, everything seems good until I press the power button to put it to sleep. Nothing.. No volume keys work, no mute. Nothing. So i tried the second part. Still same result. Same battery pull and everything. So.... it will function to power on the device if the device has been turned off. However once the device is on, it has no Power/Sleep/Wake Volume or Mute function. This had really kind of baffled me. What would cause the Sleep/Wake function to not work, but allow it to turn the ipad on? The cables aren't torqued because I do not have the cable routed with the brackets. I have it simply set into the connector, so there is no pressure or anything on the cables.

Lane,

It sounds like you've done some good troubleshooting so far. The last two power/vol flex problems that I solved ended up being the flex that connects the daughterboard to the main board. In one, there was glass in that connector. In the other, the board functioned just fine in another housing, so we deduced it down to that connector and replaced it to solve.

You might want to just try this board in another iPad 2

Unfortunately, I have no other iPad 2 to try it in. However, I did end up resolving my issue somehow... Not sure exactly how. I ended up installing the replacement part anyway all the way and finished the digitizer repair. Once I installed the Digitizer and adheared it to the frame I tried a hard reset, and low and behold.. It WORKED! Full funactionality... Power/Sleep/Wake Mute and both volume buttons. Not exactly sure why it wouldn't function while I was testing it before I installed it, but it saved me a lot of trouble lol.
