Purple Lines on screen, no reaction on the screen

I've got recently a problem with my Iphone 5 what causes purple lines on the screen and after a few seconds it even doesnt react anymore. What actually is interesting that when I press the lock button and I go back again to the screen the problem is fixed for a few seconds. Another clue to fix it is for me to turn the brightness down to the lowest level so the purple lines doesnt appear actually. So in conclusion it is like more brightness -> as faster it gets into that purple lines problem.

My big problem is now I actually dont know what causes the problem ?

Anyways here is a video what shows the problem from another user: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qq1H71T...

Would be great if you could help me with this out :D

Come on please I need help with this because I have no idea what I have to replace in my phone. Might be the display assembly kit the way to fix it?

Got the same issue, it cames two weeks ago and now it don't allow me to use my iphone more than 10 seconds...

I have the same issue too. I think it's a hardware problem. Try restoring it. If that don't work. I don't know what to tell you

Had similar issue. I changed my screen but still having difficulty with sliding picking my calls and also my phone keeps misbehaving by pressing keypad by its self and changing apps too. Please what can I do

It happened to me too and it happened when I dropped it and it made a dent(but no cracks) on the top of the screen. I don't know how to fix it but this might explain to people how it may have happened to them

Seems you need a screen assembly.

This guide will show you how to do it and has links to the needed parts and tools.

Good luck, and tread very lightly. This is an easy repair that can go wrong if you force it in any way.

I had purple vertical lines which increased with time. Touchpad only worked for few seconds after homing and pushing the top off button quickly. Took sim out cleaned contacts and blew in slot.... Fixed now.

Iphone 5s and had the same problem of faint lines accumulating on the screen before touch stops working completely. Monthes before the problem started, the touch screen acted eratically occassionally, which is fixed by turning the screen off and on. The lines started appearing and reattaching the 3 display cables fixed it for a couple hours. I changed the battery and the phone worked fine for 2 weeks, until the lines started coming back again. BLEW INTO THE SIM CARD SLOT - BANG, FIXED.

I just tried this fix. Have had the exact same problem the past couple days. Considered replacing screen, maybe even buying new phone. Tried the SIM card trick. It worked like magic. Screen is working better than ever. I can't think of how to explain it.

Absolutely I have got the same problem. And I don't know why.

omg! i cannot believe it! it works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In my view, water damage did not cause this type of issue. But the liquid indicator (white, that turns pink or red when in contact with water) will confirm that. You can see it if you remove the SIM try and peak inside, on the top (underside of the screen). It may be caused by the bad display.

I find turning my brightness all the way down works for the purple to go away but my phone is still fuzzy it's been going on for a while now after I dropped it but until you find another way to fix it just turn your brightness down because your phone will still work then

I also had this problem. It looked just like the video posted above. I tried many of the suggestions I saw on the web but nothing quite worked. I finally broke down and I took the phone in and had the screen replaced.

$105 @ Bulbs and Batteries store.

I guess they have 10% off if you schedule the repair online which I didn't do.

The tech there was very good at analyzing what the potential problems could be.

He seemed to say that likely power was not getting to the screen in sufficient quantity to keep the screen fully powered.

It could be as simple as a loose cable if the phone was dropped, some water damage even though I detected none when I looked at the water damage dot in the SIM card slot., it could be that the screen was going bad and not getting enough power, or that somehow the mainboard was damaged and not supplying enough power to keep the screen going.

He thought it most likely to be from some sort of water damage or damage to a cable connecting the screen. Possibly a drop or even some moisture had gotten into the phone from something.

He said that probably what was happening was when the phone was initially turned on it was fully functioning as it should but due to loss of power or decreased power to the screen.... the screen would dim and when the power was not sufficient, the screen froze with just the last input image which is why it couldn't receive any finger input. Essentially what was left on the screen was an image of the last thing which was happening. Enough power to see that, but not enough for any input or swiping because the screen was only displaying a ghost image essentially

The screen replacement took only an hour after I dropped it off. They said there was water damage, but only to one of the components being replaced during the screen replacement. I was lucky in this case.

The phone so far is fine.

Good things about taking it to the shop.

1. tech experience in analyzing the causes of iPhone malfunctions

2. fairly inexpensive screen replacement. Screen ~$60 bucks. 45 for service which is reasonable given the time and analysis.

3. I couldn't inadvertently damage the phone. I have fixed several iPhones before, but at some point I could brick one. Usually I only do cracked screens cause I know they are the culprit.

4. I have a 6 month warranty on the phone screen. If anything should go wrong with it I can bring it in for another replacement.

Anything besides physical damage, which water/liquid would count as physical damage

Not sure what you are saying? The issue was likely caused by physical damage such as water damage due to I'm not sure what because the phone wasn't mine to begin with. Sweat? Drop in a puddle? Can't really say?

What do you mean by "Anything besides physical damage....". Are you trying to ask a question or make a statement?

Ive had this same issue actually and ive gone to the Apple to store to get it looked at, they say it is an issue from being dropped, most of the time the screen gets knocked a little loose which messes up the touch sensors, its and easy fix at the Apple store for $129 or $29 if you have Apple Care on it. Or you can replace it yourself all you need to do is replace the screen.

Apple is only required to fix or replace the phone if it is under warranty. But I am not even sure that is so in all cases. Drops and Water Damage are only covered if you have phone insurance such as Applecare. Otherwise if it is out of warranty or there is damage from negligence, they don't have to fix it. Since this purple line problem is likely due to some sort of drop or maybe water damage, I'm not sure Apple actually is required to fix it. But you can pay to have it fixed as I did and it works beautifully afterwards.

Just fixed this issue for an iPhone 6. Open the phone up, unplug the batter, and unplug the connectors. The problem is within the ribbon cables themselves. I carefully unflexed them, then inspected them for problems. Found one was not flexing correctly, then resorted the order of the cables.

After I plugged the cables back to phone there was no more problem!

I tried blowing in the SIM card slot but it didn't do anything. However, turning down the brightness to the lowest setting seemed to eradicate the problem (until auto-brightness turned it up and the lines came back; make sure you turn that off).

disconnect battery and also disconnect degitizer. This will power off your screen. And then reconnect your battery and also reconnect degitizer.

It is due to some magnetic interference . Go to some tv repairer shop and just degaussing your iphone with degausster. Such this require for crt kind of display i am not sure this will work with iphone.

I have had this problem as well. The funny thing is I'm in grade 6 but I fixed it in a day! The problem probably occurred because water got inside your phone. The way to fix it is very simple. I'm sorry but it is way to late for you but this is for other people. First, as soon as the lines appear, put it in a airtight packet of dry, uncooked rice grains. Or in a packet of silica gels! This takes away the water drops out of the phone. Oh and don't forget to turn off your phone because it stops the water getting to the electronic components. Then after 12 hours take the phone out. Clean it with a small super dry paper towel or cloth. Then with your fist, slowly and without too much force bang the back of your phone. Then increase the force a little and bang the edges of the back. Then, bang the edges of the phone with the edges of a big and hard book, a big dictionary or just any big hard cover book. Then take a little vacuum cleaner and blow it front of the charging port. Not a dry cleaner mind you. Then take it up to the fan, a table fan or ceiling fan and hold it there for 10 minutes. Then, turn on the phone. If the lines do not disappear then bang the back more forcefully. If it doesn't I'm sorry but you need to take it to a Apple Store. If the lines disappear, then close the iPhone/iPod/iPad and keep it there overnight. By afternoon, the virus will be over!

I did the blowing-into-the-SIM-card-slot-thing to fix my iPhone SE. When i would turn on the phone, slowly purple lines would appear until my screen was unresponsive and dark purple. The first time blowing it didn’t necessarily work and I noticed that the portrait mode camera was super fogged up so i sucked all the air out and that fixed the camera but my screen was still weird. I blew into it again as one last hope and THAT ACTUALLY WORKED!!!!! I recommend blowing into it until you think it wont work and keep doing it.
