The Play/Pause button on my i-pod is no longer working. One trick i was told do is put a dab of rubbing alcohol on it...to my surprise this actually worked....but it only lasts 5 minutes.
In order to fix this would someone suggest that i replace the click wheel or click button? or both?

Mrsevich, sounds like a bad click wheel. Replace it by using this guide. word of caution. Watch the battery connector. It has a tendency of breaking off the logic board. Use a paper clip and bend it into an L-shape to pull gently up on the locking clip. Otherwise, it's a straight forward repair.
