Problems Before and After battery replacement.

Hello, please let me explain my situation with an iPhone 5c.

It was purchased 2 years ago, brand new, and was working very nice, perfectly.

Since a couple of months ago, it started to have "battery problems", like shutdowns when the battery was a 40%, when that happened the only way to turn it on again, was connecting it to a charger.

More recently the situation got worse. The home button stopped working, and more surprising, when the home button was pressed, some "funny" colors appear on the screen, but right up of the home button, not the whole screen.

So, I bought a battery, a cheap one actually, from eBay.

I used the Guide here to replace it. I think that everything went well. Not missing parts, or screws, I was very careful.

So, after the battery was replaced. The phone turned on, and surprisingly the Home Button was working again, very nice, no more funny colors on the screen.

But, just when I connected the cellphone to a charger, the battery started charging, but like 10 seconds later, 3 vertical white lines appeared on the screen, and the cellphone rebooted itself.

Also, if I use the phone (not charging it), I got some random reboots.

The white vertical lines, appear only when I try to charge the phone. (Not immediately, but like 10 seconds later)

I don´t know what to do next.

Is this new battery, damaged?

Is the motherboard or other component damage?

I don´t know what to think. I´ll really appreciate some help.

sounds like you might have a junk battery. ifixit's batteries are known high quality, you might consider having a look and ordering from them. ebay stuff is just that, a part from a supplier that will never hear from you again, never reorder from them again, and as long as they can escape negative reviews, they don't care so they sell the cheapest stuff they can get their hands on. ordering parts from ebay is a terrible idea.

the problems before replacing the battery sound like your battery was probably swollen when you removed it. that could explain the issues with the display, and explain the home button. If the battery is swollen and taking up too much space in the phone, that's gotta go somewhere and the path of least resistance is through your screen. I've seen many a phone screen damaged by swollen batteries. (batteries swelling is normal with age, but of course they need to be replaced)

Get another battery ordered, preferably from somewhere you can trust the quality. How many cheap ebay batteries do you have to order and let you down before you justify a reasonably priced ifixit battery?Any luck and that junk battery hasn't damaged your phone, otherwise you've got a mess... might want to disconnect that battery now before ordering a new one.

When you get your new battery, your phone will likely have forgotten what time it is and won't connect to a cellular network until you remind it of the time. Do that by connecting it to a wifi network or itunes so ET can phone home.

Hi Bobby, thank you for your answer and explanation. I'll definitely take your advice. I'll would never buy that kind of batteries again.

I'll will get one battery from ifixit ASAP. I'm kinda relief because as you explained, the problem is highly likely to be the battery and not a bigger issue.

I'll let you know when I do the replacement again, and tell you how it goes.

I'm not just plugging ifixit's parts because I'm on their forum. There are other sourcces for quality parts but ifixit it deals in a market that other suppliers don't, the 1 or 2 piece orders. I can give you a list of several places that after you fill out all the customer information for your business etc. place a minimum order, etc will sell you a high quality battery but they aren't set up to sell just 1 to a customer once. Their goal is to sell to repair shops and instead of a $20 sale once, make $1000+ sales weekly.
