Black screen when turned on
when I start the PCs the screen is black with the curser flashing in the top right hand corner.

ron chamberlain, "with the curser flashing in the top right hand corner." most likely means it can not access your OS. This could be caused by a hard drive failure. Enter your BIOS by pressing F10 while HP logo is displayed and see if your hard drive is showing. You can also try to set the boot option to either optical drive or USB and try to start your computer with a Linux Live CD or any other OS system CD. Let us know what you find.
